Breaking News: Chip Kelly to Ohio State OC

What is going on?  Has the entire football industry gone mad?  If this trend continues, I'm going to be upset that Sherrone didn't interview Nick Saban to be Michigan's next DC.

Bill O'Brien (BOB) who has been in role at Ohio State about a month, is leaving to take over the head coaching duties at BC, whose head coach left to become the DC of the Green Bay Packers.

That deal has not officially been announced yet, which promoted Chip Kelly who has been interviewing for NFL OC jobs to resign as the head coach of Big Ten newcomer UCLA to become the new OC at Ohio State.

What is going on?  I know Chip wanted out of UCLA but taking an OC job at another Big Ten schools is outrageous.

Any chance Wink Martindale is named the head coach of UCLA? 😃

Enjoy the Super Bowl!

Chip Kelly could still get the Seahawks offensive coordinator job

B1G and SEC are set to become their own super conference and depart from NCAA. College football is freakin chaos right now.

This Bucknut experiment is gonna be interesting to watch. They either are going to lights out good, or a super crowded-top heavy shit show. Day used to work for Chip… that should be interesting to work for him now. Both OCs at heart.

Who knows, but seems just as likely a shit show. Smells desperate, which it is. Could work… get out the popcorn.

Goblue- Ya, I like the shit show analysis. Lol I think they have too many cooks in the kitchen, and the servant is now the master with Day and Kelly. Good luck with that!

+ like 5 starting QBs, a HC who seems a dick, no culture…

Again, reason I liked Moore getting HC with us is culture. Reasonable to disagree, but I feel our program needs that continuity. I’m really hopeful that Wink is an incremental hire, not someone we are hoping great things from. Clink is young, could use a gray hair learning exp. Then he’s our DC.

I think more about Chip being the OC - when has he been good lately? He will help their run game, but that’s it right?

Goblue- You're spot on with Wink. Let's stop the bleeding and try to continue where we left off with our defense. Who else is out there? Nobody I'd be interested in.

I watched a few UCLA games last year, mainly to follow Dante Moore, and I wasn't impressed with ANYTHING going on out there.

They are going to hit the portal for a few positions for depth. Portal opens April 15th. UM's spring game is the 20th. Not great timing since some kids in the portal will jump within a few days.

Being reported that Clinksdale is gone.. to Chargers....Does Harbaugh, have any remorse about doing this 🤔

Goblue said...

Why does everyone blame harbaugh? These coaches have their own minds. They can say no if they wanted to stay. What’s wrong with asking if they want an NFL opportunity?

Ron said...

Clinkscale sorry I spelled it wrong... He can ask coaches on other college staffs if they want the opportunity.. but no he's going to take all of our defensive coaches.. hey I don't blame Harbaugh, I love him he brought the program back.. just wonder what he feels about doing this to Moore

Goblue- When you're a Head Coach in the NFL, you can pick and choose your coaches from a broad pool of candidates. You have the proverbial pick of the litter. You don't need coaches that have connections to local high school coaches and programs. You don't need coaches that are great recruiters. You don't need coaches that kids admire like a father. It's a plug and play system in the NFL. A cold, calculated, professional business. College is all about relationships, families, and community.

Now if Warde refused to dip into that $4,000,000 surplus and give these coaches a raise, then he is as much to blame as Harbaugh for letting these guys go. But ultimately, Jimmy leaving us a skeleton coaching staff is a low blow, a hit below the belt.

I can hear people saying, hold it, college sports has become big business. Yes, it absolutely has. What I'm saying, from a high school and college athlete's perspective, they are looking for a place they can trust and grow as a player and as a person for the next 4 years. When I was an assistant coach in H.S., I went on several recruiting trips with some of my players. They had no family structure at home, and relied on football for that. When coaches leave, some players are deeply affected. Some less than others, especially if their real motivation is money. Im hoping we don't see any attrition through the portal, but I'd be surprised if we don't.

I wasn't going to share this because its 3rd hand knowledge and I haven't had it confirmed, but I was told that Jimmy had his office in Schembechler Hall completely cleaned out when he went on his Minnesotta interview last year. As in gone, packed up, and out of here. I always thought Jimmy was the one turning down the job after these interviews, but now it makes me wonder.

Well, it happened...Harbaugh strikes again. This is not a good look for Harbaugh in the eyes of the Michigan fan base, even though I know he can't hire other position coaches from other NFL teams because it's a lateral move, he can still hire promising up and comers through the NFL network, or cherry pick coaches from other college programs. One key challenge for Coach Moore is that by now most of the hiring has been done and the coaches are settling in with their new teams.

However, if coach Moore needs a little extra support he should indeed get it now. If I were him I would look at the analysts on staff again, look within the coaching staff and GA pool from other schools, recruit coaches that are younger former Michigan and other players that understands the positions and has the energy and spirit to do the job.

One thing for sure, this will be his staff and as the saying goes, what does not kill you will make you stronger. Sherrone Moore should become much stronger because of this. IMHO!!!

Voice of Reason- We absolutely need to flex some of our muscle and dig into the well of Michigan resources. Or at least try. There are a lot of Michigan alum that would make excellent coaches.
