Michigan Tuesday: Enough Jimmy and Mike Hart?

Let's start with the Mike Hart situation.  There isn't any official news on Mike's status with the program at this moment.  The rumor mill is spinning that Mike might have taken a leave of absence from Sherrone's staff.  He is not on the road recruiting, so that seems like a plausible situation.   I don't want to speculate if Mike is having a health concern or a family situation.  He also could be upset over not being promoted to head coach or OC after Jimmy left.  Either way, he does not seem to be with the program right now, which is disappointing.  I mean who isn't upset at work for not being promoted?

There are recent reports that Jimmy wants to hire Coach Clink and Coach Elston now.  My response to that is, enough Jim! I understand this is business but for goodness sakes, lets not destroy your alma-mater on the way out the door.  Fish from another pond!

Sherrone probably needs to hire both as Co-DC's and give them a huge raise.  The good news is both are on the road recruiting.  I think the risk is too high for Michigan to hire Cullen from the Chiefs.  Promote your guys and keep the staff in place.

  • Speaking of Harbaugh's hiring former Michigan assistants.  John has hired Doug Mallory as DB coach for the Ravens.  Doug has been on Jimmy's staff the last 3 years.
  • Jay must have read my post from Friday and picked the Seahawks over the Chargers.
  • Jake Moody is a rookie and now firmly implanted in a huge role for the 49'ers in the Super Bowl.
  • There seems to be momentum that BOB is the leading candidate for the BC head coach opening.   Maybe he hasn't sold his house yet?
  • PFF college says Josh Wallace did not give up a coverage TD last season.

No Mike Hart, Jimmy purging our program, this all makes me sick to my stomach.

It seems like Michigan made the decision to replace Jimmy from within, which is fine...IF YOU RETAIN YOUR CURRENT COACHES! This all should have been thought out long in advance, with generous new contracts ready for the coaches that stick around.

The absentee Athletic Director seems to be a common theme at Michigan. Sailor Bill takes the cake. It's like no one is driving this runaway train. SMH

It's clear Clink is not Moore 1st choose for DC, likely concern about having a first time play caller, instead wants someone with experience in calling plays. Which I would think pisses Clink off, thinking he was next in line for DC. If he's not promoted here, I'm petty sure he's gone, for there is an opening for him to move up the ladder with Minter & Harbaugh.

I don't see Elston & family moving from AA, if rewarded with a promotion and pay raise, but one never knows.

Hart may be looking for somewhere to move up where he'd have a chance to be a coordinator. At Michigan it seems he's cemented here as the RB coach.

I've always felt the less staff destruction the better the chances were in keeping what took years to build, inside the locker room, and outside on the field.

Blue- I totally agree with you, keeping the current culture on and off the field is huge. Now we have what appears to be some descension in the ranks, which is never good.

I was ridiculed and ripped to shreds for the mere suggestion of looking into established coaches. Having 4 new coaches at positions they have never coached at before is a disaster waiting to happen. (I hope that is not the case).

When I was an assitant coach in high school, I worked with one of the best Head Coaches to ever coach in the state of Michigan. Not going to mention names, but he has won several state championships. He had his shit together from top to bottom, it was a well run machine. When he left for a treasure trove of riches at another school, the next head coach was seemingly in a fog compared to the previous regime. I kept coaching because I love football and teaching kids, but the winning atmosphere was loooong gone.

Bill O'Brien will stay at Ohio St. because he knows he would be the underboss to Cryin' Ryan. If anything would happen to Day, O'Brien would be the next OSU head coach. Just my opinion.

Blue- Yes and no with Mike Hart being cemented at RB coach. Frequently the position coaches will get moved around. Don't be surprised if Hart takes on added duties as 'running game coordinator', or something else on the offensive side of the ball. That's how coaches get the experience to move up the ranks, similar to Jay Harbaugh.

Brady - Mike Hart already has the title of "Run Game Coordinator". He's looking to climb the ladder to eventually become a head coach. With young coaches ahead of him there's just not that much more room to climb. Remember Hart interviewed for the Western Michigan head coaching vacancy last year after the Big 10 Championship game.

Blue, you're right. I like Mike. We definitely need to find a way to increase his role and keep him at Michigan.

JUST IN- Elston is gone. Jimmy poached another one.

I hope the Chargers finish last for the next 5 years.

Is this poaching personal? Is this some kind of sick revenge vendetta by Harbaugh?

Thanks, Jimmy! Have a nice day.

Maybe naive but I’m going to assume that JH and Sherrone have been communicating about who’s getting offered and who could replace them. Not Jimmy’s M.O. to burn down a program he built and still loves. I’m going to say there’s a method to all this madness until proven otherwise.

As I said a week a week ago.....little jimmy gave Michigan the middle finger on his way to the NFL.

It takes two to tango. These guys make their own deals. Jimmy is not hypnotizing them...

The whole UM staff getting offers, which they've earned and deserve. Meanwhile, don't see the NFL calling anyone on Cryin Ryan's staff.

I feel bad for Sharrone. I don't think this is what he thought would happen. Seems like he's not getting the support from Michigan, the assistant coaches, or Harbaugh. He's being set up to fail. This is b.s. Now you want a first time head coach to go find a new staff on his own. This is a move that you would expect to see at a Ball St or a Tulane. Not Michigan.

You think Harbaugh, is trying to stick it to Warde manual?
