Michigan Monday: Can't Have Both

Michigan fans would love Michigan Football and Basketball to be really good at the same time.   Yes, we have had recent examples where that has happened, but Michigan Football just reached the summit of the sport and Michigan Basketball finished last in the Big Ten with 23 loses.

We knew Michigan Basketball would be bad between Juwan's health issue, a physical conflict with S&C coach Jon Sanderson, and a rigged admission office.  We didn't know they would be awful.

Juwan has pretty much used up all his good will as a former Fab 5 member and hasn't been able to keep the program at a level that Coach B left it.  It seems Warde is going to give him another "make it or break it" year.  I hope there are diamonds in the rough in the portal as he won't be able to recruit kids from high school for a turnaround squad for next season.

This is old news by now, but Mike Hart has left the Michigan program.  This one hurts for me.  Mike is one of my favorite players of all time.  He was Blake Corum before Blake put on shoulder pads.  I don't have any insight into his personal issues but I hope they clear up and he can continue his coaching career with another program at some point.   I still feel very sad that Michigan wins a National Championship and his to reboot most of its coaching staff.   Mike's contract expired in January and by insider reports he stepped away for personal reasons.

  • The Lions have re-signed Graham Glasgow for 3 years $20M!  Congrats to the former walk-on!
  • There is a rumor Quinten Johnson might be headed back to Michigan's secondary.   Quinten declared for the NFL Draft but he might have changed his mind.  At this point its a rumor but Johnson was playing his best football at the end of the year with a great pass break up against OSU and a forced fumble in the Rose Bowl.
  • Luke Yaklich who became Coach B's defensive coordinator and helped turned Michigan Basketball around was let go has head coach at UIC.
  • Brandon Graham will be come the Eagles first 15 year player as he signed a 1 year contract to return to Philly.
  • PFF ranks Mason Graham as the #1 DT for the 2024 season.

Bob, correction, it was not a physical confrontation between Juwan and Sanderson. Just a heated verbal.

There must be other variables at work being a coach besides being a great player yourself. Isn't Nick Sheridan offensive coordinator for Alabama?
He was one of the "homeless quarterbacks mentioned by Chowman.

Hart might just not have what it takes to be a level one coach, and he is crying in his beer because no one wants to promote him at Michigan. Is that his personal problem in a nutshell?

Was Hart asked to come back? I had read somewhere that Moore didn't offer him a contract. I don't want to delve into his personal life but was this his choice to not come back or Michigan's?

szanreno - Heard that same rumor about Hart.

Wonder if Warde will cut Juwan salary in half (as he did with Harbaugh) if given another year to upright the sunken ship?
