Michigan Friday: CFP Starts Tonight

The 12 days of Christmas team College Football Playoffs starts tonight, when my proposed play-in game is taking place.  Indiana is visiting Notre Dame in what social media shows a snowy Sound Bend. This game for sure should be played in Dayton.

I know you miss my bad picks when the season ends, so here is a holiday bonus!   :-)

Indiana @ ND -6:  Both teams are 11-1 and both have played terrible schedules with no league Championship games.   ND has played well after their embarrassing loss to a bad MAC team but again who have they played?  Michigan put on tape how you beat IU and Ohio State figured it out.  Bad weather is going to limit IU's big plays.  ND 28 IU 21

SMU @ PSU -8.5:  Penn State couldn't have an easier road to the semi-finals.  They play SMU at home and then Bosie on the road.  Still Penn State is not a good football team.  They fall in the ND and IU category of not being as good as their record shows.  If this game was indoors SMU might run them off the field.  It's not and it will be cold in Happy Valley.  Cold wins.   PSU 17 SMU 14

Clemson @ Texas -10.5:  That is a big line for Texas who looks great one weekend and terrible the next.  Are they the best team in the nation or are they looking at a first round exit?  Dabo knows about playing in Championship games.  I still think Texas is better if they get decent QB play.   Texas 31 Clemson 24

Tennessee @ Ohio State -7: Will Ohio State still be hung over from the devastating Michigan loss at home?  Will they play tight like the last time they took the field?  Or will they put that behind them and play good football?  Tennessee has been up and down this season.  They can play good football and also very average.  Does OSU have a home field advantage if they start slow?  That crowd could turn against Ryan Day quickly.  Tennessee 21 OSU 20

  • Former Michigan QB  Jayden Denegal does a Steve Fisher or maybe a Brady Hoke and goes from Michigan to San Diego State.  Nice year round weather upgrade!
  • The USC Branch brothers are expected to visit Georgia and ASU.  No word on A2 yet.
  • Michigan is expected to get a visit from the top ranked OT prospect in the portal WSU Fa'alili Fa'Amoe.  Yes, please!  Side note: are there any players left at WSU?
  • Former Michigan, Charlotte, and Colorado LB NHG is visiting Alabama

The transfer portal used to be to better your opportunity to play. Now, it seems the main purpose of the portal is to see how much you can get paid. Guidelines (contracts) need to replace the L.O.I. asap for more stability. I foresee the day when we come full circle on this, and programs are left with a player on a 4 year contract which the player stinks and doesn't pan out. Then teams are shelling out a million or two a year for a bench warmer. Nice.

Then, because the player has a no cut, guaranteed contract, the team and player are screwed. Heck, you're going to see players spending their money on lavish house parties, paying Snoop Dog to come sing, and being sponsored by Speaker City. Oh wait, that's already been done. 😆

Portal QB is down too Finn and Mikey Keene. Do we really want to see either of these guys behind center? No. The good news (I think it's good) is that Jadyn Davis hasn't run into the transfer portal. I'd expect J.D. to be our starting QB in 2025 until Bryce is ready, and only if J.D. is injured will we see the portal QB.

I'll take it a step further: there will be a salary cap. Power 4 teams will start with an equal pool and then can allocate it any way they want. I heard that Texas Tech paid a 3rd option WR, not a #1 or a #2, but a #3 WR to a $700K NIL deal. That's nuts!!!

I've heard that JD is waiting till after the spring game to see how everything shakes out. If it looks like BU has the lead to the starting QB job, he's going to enter the portal then. I think Michigan HAS to bring in a TP QB and Finn is my choice. First both he and BU are from Bellville and know each other. Finn could be a very good mentor to BU.

I've never seen a more highly rated player at Michigan do less than Jadyn Davis. Smh

Goes back to the rumors I heard during the season: he and his family wanted him to redshirt. Look I get that when you're sitting behind a veteran QB that's playing at a high level. You had Alex Orji - not a QB and Davis Warren - not a D1 QB. Just a curious decision when there was a clear path for him to cease the starting job.

Exactly. What does that say about Davis if he couldn't beat out Warren and Orji, two of the worst QBs in Michigan history. I am very nervous about the QB position next year.

I said this before, and I'll say it again. No one has thought this transfer portal crap through. What you said is absolutely true..

This is where i have wondered about if things will stabilize at some point. with some people shelling out NIL money to universities, what is their return on investment? maybe its purely to just get their school to be good, but i would think the majority would ultimately realize - "what i am paying for". I was curious that teams didn't do contracts yet - are they not allowed too? its going to turn way more professional, and part of it. Sure, maybe you offer a 4 year "contract" to a 5 star, but maybe you get burned and they dont pane out.

It's chaos. That Penn St QB Prebula leaving before the Bowl game. Doesn't make sense. Just glad it happened to James Franklin. 😆

Davis better play at least a half in the Alabama Bowl game.

If JD doesn't get some serious run in the bowl game, then I fully expect him to hit the portal in the spring. Who do they have besides him and Warren? Denegal is with SDst. Orji is in the portal and probably end up at a Grambling. Are there other walk on?

NCAA has acted like a petulant child when they didn't get their way on NIL. Took their ball and went home and now its the wild west. I do think eventually its going to self correct because the NIL deals are getting out of hand and schools are going to get burned by bad deals for bad players.

Brady, yeah more chaos. So with Allar coming back, he wants to enter the TP and go somewhere he can play. Problem is with the CFP, he'd miss the deadline for enrolling at a new school. So its stay with PSU and then wait till after the spring game and possibly not getting enough time to pick up a new offense, or leave the team before the CFP and be in a better position to start next year for someone else.
