Hey Beav: How many QB's is too many?

The rumor mill has been saying that Michigan was close to taking another top rated dual threat QB in the class of 2009. The Internet message boards were humming that it was first commit wins between Tate Forcier and Shavodrick Beaver. Well, Shavodrick Beaver blinked first and gave his verbal commitment to the Wolverines today.

That means Michigan has two highly ranked athletic QB's coming in next year and maybe a third, with an offer still out there for Forcier. My guess is, Michigan wants either Beaver or Forcier but not both. With less then 20 scholarships (expected) available next year taking 3 QB's is overkill but two seems perfect. Message to Threet and Feagins: Practice hard and watch a lot of film this summer. There are two top guys coming in 2009 for your jobs.

Here are the vitals on Shavodrick Beaver from Varsity Blue:

Wichita Falls (Tex.) Rider quarterback Shavodrick Beaver (6-4, 200, 4.5)

Player Notes:

Beaver is a run-pass quarterback, with a very good TD-Int ratio for a player with that distinction, especially at the high school level. As the second quarterback in this class, it will not be a surprise if he redshirts in 2009. Beaver is rated in Rivals top 250 as a 4 Star prospect.

Recruiting Notes Beaver was off the recruiting radar for Michigan fans for quite some time, despite his status as a highly rated dual-threat QB. Beaver wasn't thinking much about Michigan either, as he was prepared to commit to TCU when his Michigan offer came. He quickly reconsidered, and Michigan moved among his top choices, sending TCU fans into a tizzy. After indications that a quarterback could commit this week, many Michigan fans were thinking it would be Tate Forcier yesterday. However, Beaver committed today instead.
