Michigan - Ohio State Game Re-Cap

First off, thank goodness it's over. The season, I mean. This was a year where nothing went right and this game was a good example of that.

Let's be honest, Ohio State is a solid team and deserved the victory, but with all things considered Michigan played with a walk on and a slot receiver at QB. Michigan had zero chance with that combination and still was in this game early in the 3rd quarter. Michigan lost this game last January, when Ryan Mallet and Adrian Arrinton left the program.

Ohio State played well but it will be interesting to see if they can really beat a top 10 opponent this year.

I know many fans live for this game, but frankly this was like Michigan beating a down Michigan State team. It really doesn't mean much. This wasn't #1 - #2, it was a good Ohio State team vs a terrible Michigan team and this is what happens when a good team plays and a bad one.

A couple of thoughts on the game:

-The key to beating OSU is stopping the run and making Pryor pass. I don't think he can beat a top 10 team with his arm.
-How in the world did they not overturn the Michigan interception in end zone? What are they looking at? That was a pretty clear call.
-Tressel ran up the score a little bit. I think he is a solid coach, but some of the long passes late in the 4th were pretty questionable.
-The big plays and lack of a Michigan QB was the difference in the game. If Michigan had a semi quality QB this game would have been much closer.
-There was no way Michigan could keep this game close with turning the ball over.
- There was a clear hold on Beanie's long run near the end zone. (didn't matter but another example of poor officiating)

(side note: The Big Ten officials this year have been just terrible. It quite frankly has been an embarrassment to the league. The officials calls didn't decide this game but every game I have watched this year there have been 2-3 clear "big" mistakes in every game.)

Good News Michigan fans, this year is officially over. 2008 is gone. Put it away and start preparing for next year. We need as many 2009 recruits to enroll early in January. Welcome Tate Forcier and Shavodrick Beaver!

It still mystifies me why RR hasn't given Feagan more of chance this year. Sheridan was simply awful except for one game. He can't run. He can't pass. He can't scramble. He has poor judgement.

Feagan was never given more than a series or two...not even enough to get comfortable out there. Even then, it's apparent he's a much better athlete.

This makes me doubt RR's judgment more than anything else that has happened this season.

Okay, so I'm a Buckeye, but I am really curious about the Michigan Blog-o-sphere regarding Barwis! Why has he gotten a free pass from everyone? He was supposed to be the "Second Coming"...Fewer Injuries of ANY kind, Faster than ANY team in the Big 10, Defense still Raring to at the end of the game...yada yada yada.

I understand RR's problems with the new Offensive Schemes etc, but is Barwis' conditioning program something else that will take 4+ years AND RR recruits?

I enjoy MOST of the UM Blogs, and I think they are some of the most well written on the interwebs, but recently I have watched many of your compatriots eat each other, as well as their readers, the players, and the coaches...but barely a mention of the Mighty Barwis...even as I watch both your offense and defense lose players to injury. Like I said, I am a Buckeye, but just curious...looking forward to renewing the rivalry in 2009 and beyond

Rich Rod has repeatedly stated that Feagin just didn't have a grasp of the offense and wasn't anywhere close to being mentally ready to play quarterback. Yes, he is far more athletically gifted than Threet or Sheridan, but you still need to be able to throw the ball and make sound choices. It appears he was unable to do those things during practice and is the reason he's being moved to slot receiver.

If not starting and playing a true freshman, two star, quarterback is the biggest reason you doubt RR's judgement... then you probably don't doubt his judgement to much.

Barwis is getting a "free pass" because this is, without question, the best conditioned team Michigan has had in years and years and years.

Nobody (intelligent) said that due to barwis we aren't going to have any injuries period. Injuries are a part of the game. Also, some of our key injuries this year were due to concussions, not really something you can prepare for with S&C.

Tressel called late passes to get his senior qb and receivers touchdowns in the Michigan game on senior day.

I don't have a problem with that at all. If the tables are turned, I hope Michigan does the same. Sooner rather than later, I hope.

Lots of points and good feedback here:

- Barwis: I think he has done this job this year and this team is well conditioned. Also being in good condition doesn't always prevent injuries. It can help, but it doesn't make you immune to injuries.

- I get the Seniors playing time etc, I also think they could have done that with 5 yard outs. No sour milk on this side, I just didn't see a reason for the post routes.

-Sheridan was Michigan's only option which is troubling just in that. Threet was out, Sheridan should be a 4th string QB or Safety and Feagin should have been in the slot and blew a red-shirt for 4 or 5 plays this season.

Help is on the way and hopefully will be here in about a month.
