Michigan - MSU Post Game Initial Reaction

The comeback that all most was. Tate is pure nails and had a good game. He put the ball in the hands of the receivers every time (expect the last throw). His heart and guts all most pulled this win out for the Wolverines.

Special Note to Sparty: Enjoy the win, you made two plays in over time to win the game. Congratulations. By the way, your not a very good team. Your lack of discipline and stupid coaching decision all most cost you a game that you pretty much dominated. Sure go for it on 4th down instead of kicking what would have been a game winning field goal. Why not get another 15 yard personal foul penalty? The way you play football will get you beat most of the time. Sparty, you won the game but if you continue to play stupid football your future is pretty dim. I thought your new coach was supposed to change those things. Looks like much hasn't changed in East Lansing.

The above isn't sour grapes, its the truth. Michigan had no business being tied with State at the end of the game. It was Spartan stupidly that allowed the comeback.

Now what went wrong for the Wolverines:

Jeers:

  • Offensive Line, block someone please! Tate was accurate but had very little time most of the day.
  • Speaking of the O line, hows that run blocking? There wasn't any.
  • 3rd and long on defense. That's supposed to favor the defense right? A three man rush, is a terrible strategy.
  • Wide Receivers and Tight Ends: Catch the ball! Way too many drops.
  • A fake punt in the State's red zone? Terrible call. If your going for it, line up and try to get the one yard.
  • QB scrambles was the difference in the game for State
  • The offense game plan by the Wolverines was pretty weak

Cheers:

  • Brandon Graham's hit on 3rd and 1 from the 4 yard line.
  • Stevie Brown played well
  • Tate is just pure blood and guts. The kid really is "nails"
  • The defense played pretty well overall in stopping State with field goals. They were on the field the entire game and had to be gassed.

Let's be honest, this was a difficult game but a learning experience for the young Wolverines. Hopefully, they can learn from this experience when they play a night game against Iowa next week. If the Michigan WR's hang on to the ball and Stonum doesn't fumble in the red zone, Michigan wins this game which they had no business winning.

We have to live with these type of games with this young team. It's all most like watching the Fab 5 on the basketball court, some days they were great other days they played young and sloppy. Today, we saw both out of the Wolverines. Use it as experience and get ready for next week.

There are times when we forget that this Michigan team is only in its second year under RR and they have shown outstanding grouth; while at the same time this is the first year under GRobinson who is installing a whole new system. The defense is showing "areas" of improvement each week. Michigan is young on both sides of the ball and has too many inexperienced players to be considered a serious BT threat this year. That is why the "experts" keep saying that Michigan is a year or two away from contending for the BT championship and a BCS bowl.

MSU was supposed to win this game because they are further developed within their systems. However, Michigan has more talent and will start winning against MSU regularly starting next year. That is when you will see the normal Michigan dominance again. However, this year, Michigan will be very competitive in every game with a chance to win them all. That is a big growth spurt from a year ago.

A year ago, Michigan lost to Toledo and wrestled with other MAC teams. That is not the case this year. Michigan is growing up.

Give MSU credit, they played their hearts out and took advantage of Michigan mistakes. They needed a win and they finally got it. One may argue that it is not a well deserved win, but it's a win none the less. Let Michigan learn from this game.

Michigan will show improvement on both sides of the ball as the season progress. With Molk out, the O-line has been reconfigured and that does effect the performance of the offense. With more experience I know we will be pleasantly suprised against some of the other BT teams.

The defense wasn't very good, but you have to give them credit for making some big plays when they had to.

Don't understand why RR can't find a spark when Denard Robinson is standing next to him on the sideline. Why not put him in for more than one play at a time? I'm pretty sure sooner or later you'd get a spark or two.

RR needs to take the full blame for the fake punt. it was embarrassing. If it was Mesko's call, then RR needs to take the blame for that as well.

This young team was probably starting to believe some of their own press and were probably assuming a win against State. This first road game was a good wake-up call to remind them that it ain't easy to keep winning: if the other team doesn't beat you, you can always beat yourself. I'm sure RR will find a way to use this to get them ready for Iowa next week.

Blah, blah, blah. M Go Blow is ranked nationally in the top ten every year in recruiting but can only manage a tie in 97 for a national championship since their last one which was when? Oh, yeah the fifties or sixties... You should be wasting your time comparing yourself to other teams that rake in the blue chip prospects, not a team like Michigan State, who is not supposed to win these games anyway. The fact you ARE spending time comparing them tells me, Michigan fans don't have a clue, they can't beat their main rival and now they can't beat their secondary rival. Get over yourselves, you are NOT an Ohio State, Oklahoma, or Florida. Hell, Penn State and and Florida State have more room to brag, being able to do more with their Blue chip recruits than you have. Let's bring up the fact you are the winningest program in history. How many of those wins did you even get to see? You gonna brag about wins back when you wouldnt let teams into the big ten? That has nothing to do with the last thirty years you so like to point out have dominated over Sparty. Good for you. Guess what? As bad as State seems, you are now worse, because you LOST. AGAIN...

Too funny! State has bad coaching?! Then I am assuming you think that fake punt was coaching genius? I'm a Blue fan and even I find that laughable. Wake up you idiot and realize that Michigan stunk in this game until the final 4 minutes.

When Michigan defense allows the State's QB that time to throw or run, it would seem that a defensive coach would engineer a solution in the second half. That didn't happen.
The defense needs to get better at rushing the QB soon with Iowa and Penn State coming up.

State fans won thier super bowl, now they can win less then half thier games the rest of the season and still be happy.

Classic Sparty.

BTW: If you don't think Michigan is a top football program you have no idea what college football is about. I'm guessing State isn't a top basketball program for the same reason?

Enjoy your victory Sparty and prepare for your letdown next week.

More scUM sour grapes anonymous? Thank for being the typical loser wolverette!

Sparty,
You won the game. That's the most important thing. congrats.

You stopped Michigan's running game and played hard on your effort to get back to .500 football.

You also had a ton of personal foul calls.

You also had another 4th quarter meltdown that all most cost you the game.

I know your green chest is out today, but this was the BCS ready team right?

You were also favored to win this game remember?

Both of these teams have a long way to go before they win any championships. Wait, a second I think State just won thiers!

Party On State! Do you have any couches left in East Lansing?

Couches? is that the best you can come up with? That joke was mildly amusing about 15 years ago when it was relevant. But hey, what would you expect from sore losers? Just grasping as straws.

The real hurtful thing is not that Michigan lost to MSU per se, but that Michigan fell from the top 25 polls. What that says is, that the pollsters were punishing Michigan for losing to a "nothing" team. When Michigan beat ND, ND dropped from the polls for the same reason. It took Michigan a few weeks to get into the polls ...to "prove" themselves. Now, Michigan has been dropped for the same reason ...losing to a "NOTHING" team. Well, there is always next year.

Go ahead Sparty you can breathe again the game is over. Your season is out of the toilet ( sitting on the seat ). Now this may sound totally hopeless to you, but all you have to do is win 37 more consecutive to tie things up. Then, if you can accomplish this, we can compete for bragging rights. Stone Cold University of Michigan.
