4 star OL Grant Newsome is expected to make a decision this week. He visited his top two schools last week in Michigan and Penn State. He is a 6'7 280 offensive tackle in the 2015 class from New Jersey. Grant has offers from the likes of Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Ohio State, Wisconsin, MSU and many more. The rumor mill is spinning that a decision looks positive for the Maize and Blue this week.
Update: Well that didn't take long and he committed this morning. Welcome Big Man.
With Ty taking a spot, Michigan probably has about 15-16 spots left in the class. Yes, it probably will get bigger but it will still be a small class. To date Michigan has all 4 star players and a kicker. The kicker is a 3 star which is really good for a kicker!
On the basketball front, Uof M Hoops has an interview up with 5 star guard Derryck Thornton Jr. who visited Ann Arbor this past weekend. “It was probably my best visit, it was great,” Thornton reiterated. “The staff did a great job so that was one of my better visits, if not the best one.”
You may or may not know that Coach Beilein has policy of not offering incoming HS juniors (class of 2016) until June 15th. He was part of a group that recommended to the NCAA that all offers for that class should not take place before 6/15. That rule was not accepted but John being a man of his word, keeps that policy active at Michigan.
“I think they’re going to call me on the 15th,” Thornton said, clearly aware of Michigan’s policy. “And we’re going to talk a little bit then.”
There seems to be some positive momentum in his recruitment and his commitment could come as early as this Sunday. Let's hope that happens!
- The Sound Mind Sound Body camp starts on Thursday. This was once just a local event but now has become a National Camp with a number of high profile players attending. Here is a list of players with Michigan ties that will be attending. The event will be at the Chandler Park Academy.
- Jordan Morgan is working out for the Cavs, Timberwolves and Bull in the next two weeks. The goal is get a summer league invitation.
