Its finally over, Jimmy didn't get offered the Viking job and will now be at Michigan as long as they will have him. He has agreed to an amended agreement which adds a year to his current contract (that he signed last year) and assuming a few more things: (updated with just released details)
- A higher salary - my guess is $8M - $9M a year. He is averaging 7.3M per year.
- Higher salary for his assistant coaches
- A high buyout to guarantee his promise of sticking around - $3M with a decreasing scale to $750K in year 4.
Now what?
Jimmy and staff has plenty of work to do. Spring Ball will be here before we know it and there is a ton of questions to be answered.
1. Recruiting for 2023 and beyond
2. Jesse Minter comfortable with staff and scheme
3. Replacing 2021's pass rush
4. Starting QB
5. Taking a step forward and not back
As you know, I feel Michigan has taken a step forward with all the staff changes this season. With change comes disruption and Michigan needs to handle that during the Spring session. The hardest thing will be to keep that competitive edge that the team had last season. The defense was good but lost a ton of talent to the NFL. The offense was good but couldn't beat an elite defense. The MSU blind spot also has to be solved. Michigan's QB room is a good problem to have. Let's assume JJ wins the starter role. That doesn't mean Michigan doesn't need Cade. Any good program needs 2 QB's to lead the team at any point during the season.
I'm comfortable with the offensive line, RB's, TE's, and Wide Receivers. Michigan also got back its punter and the best place kicker in the country.
There is a lot to smile about BHB inmates, this program is in good hands.
- Michigan has offered 2023 4-star CB Payton Bown who is committed to ND
*I'm traveling on Friday, so there won't be a post tomorrow.
