Wolverine Wednesday: Media over Coaching?

There is an interesting trend going on in the NFL, coaches are thinking about heading to broadcasting boot over roaming the sideline.   We now live in a time where Tony Romo makes double of what Super Winning head coach Sean McVay.

NFL head coaches is a 24/7 job and even young guys like McVay are considering leaving.  Sean Payton put in his time and needed a break.  Is McVay next? Double his salary for working 1 day a week, sounds like a pretty solid upgrade.  John Madden retired when he was 42 and clearly made his mark on the game from the booth and in the video game world.

There is also a new media monster in play as the NFL's Thursday night is coming to Amazon Prime next season.   There are rumors they're interested in Al Michaels and former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman.  Amazon clearly has a ton of money and can buy the best guys in the business.

Here is a list of rumored situations:
  • Sean Payton NBC?
  • Al Michaels Amazon?
  • Sean McVay Monday Night Football?
  • Troy Aikman Amazon?
  • Michele Tafoya to politics reporting
  • Dan Orlovsky's contact at ESPN is up
  • Mike Golic Jr. contract is also up, and he left ESPN
  • Ann Arbor's Mike Trico is going to replace Al Michaels at NBC
There will be a trickledown effect once Amazon signs its duo.   Who will replace Troy Aikman at Fox if he leaves?  Dan Orlovsky is one of the best young color guys in the business (I thought he was excellent on the one Michigan game he did this past season).

Work life balance is a real thing, and we will see what McVay chooses.

Why is the sideline reporter always a woman? I believe in equal opportunity, but this seems to take advantage of that by cramming someone that never played the game down our throats, simply for the sake of diversity. I'd much rather have a former player asking pertinent questions than some blonde bimbo.
