Michigan Thursday: News and Notes

Distracted by the PGA Championship this morning, so throwing some N&N at you!  😀

  • Moussa Diabate testing #'s at the combine were pretty good (compared with Centers): Lane agility #1, Shuttle #1, Sprint #1, Standing Vertical #2, Max Vertical #1.   He gone!
  • Looks like NCAA Football Conference Divisions are going away.  I just don't want to play OSU twice in a row.   I am for moving any Michigan game in Columbus to Indy and playing it as the Big Ten Championship game.
  • Funny how NIL is giving boosters the right to "buy" recruits.   So nothing has changed, just what has happened in the dark, is now in the light.
  • Ryan "Pay" Day gets a nice raise and a 2-year extension.   I didn't think that happened after losing to "The Team Up North".
  • USFL expands roster with 5 more players, trying to protect players against the XFL next season.
  • Speaking of the XFL, they have signed a deal with ESPN.

And that's why they are called "1 and dones". Should be of no surprise. Most of these kids have it in the mind they're leaving no matter what barring something disastrous happening like an injury. Hell, Shaedon Sharpe never played a game for Kentucky and he's in the draft and there's a ton of buzz about him with NBA insiders that he might go very early. Perhaps to the Pistons. Only reason many go to college is they get on TV. After all, NOBODY watches the G league. Heard all the hype last year about Jalen Green yet most people never even saw him play. The saw some highlight dunks and were sold he was the next greatest thing.

Article on Yahoo about Saban talking about Texas A&M essentially buying the number one class in football ... well welcome to the club! Things are forever changed and adopt it or die!(maybe not die but win half your games - if your lucky. College football is no longer pride, but for a paycheck, the real losers will be in the stands, won't be losers if they accept the fact they are watching pro-ball .... the money flow will drop down into the high schools soon, and did I hear someone say "Junior high" Enough said, but if it gets too crazy there is always something else....I do believe Michigan will not do much with NIL, and Harbaugh will struggle because of that, but a white knight could come along and rescue that, but again if we do succeed, will it the same like before - "hell no"

Saban's just mad cause NIL allows everybody to do what he did. I emphasize "did"! When he first got to Tuscolusa he had bag men that left bags of money on the doorstep of prized recruits. He got to a point where he no longer had to do that as he had built the biggest and best football machine in college football. Not upstarts can not only compete with him for recruits, they are beating him. And he don't like it. And yes, Michigan will struggle they don't adapt to the wild west of NIL. Some think they'll eventually have to cap it, but if they don't................

Fisher came out firing today! This is going to be a nice little tango between the two. Fact is, they both buy their teams. Cmon Saban....ain't nobody going to Bama cuz they reads too good! Saban realizes the threat that the NIL brings to his program. Suck it Saban. Yes Jimbo, you bought your team...own it! I would be for moving the Cockeye game towards the beginning of the season. Maybe each program plays a couple of hood rats, then gets down to business in Week 3. The good thing would be that whoever the loser was, they'd still have the rest of the season to climb their way back into contention and potential rematch. And BTW...Day is another Fisher, he buys his team. You been to CBus? It's a S-hole and no student athlete is going there for an education and like Cardale Jones said, "I didn't come here to play me no school!"

Regarding playing osu more than once during the season; I don't support restructuring the alignment of teams that could cause any college conference teams to play each other more than once during a season (not counting National Championship playoffs). For us it is "The Game." If Michigan and osu had to play more than once within the conference then "The Game," is no longer "The Game." It waters it down...a lot. In fact, I don't think they need to have a championship game or divisions, but it's more money for somebody I guess.

Regarding NIL, I am convinced that how we are seeing schools handle this current NIL platform is very similar to how they were handling it when it was the under the table "Bagman" deliver system. IMHO!!!
