Penn State Preview

Real bear on the sideline? Pinterest

Time: Noon
Location: Big House
Weather: 45 Rain early morning
TV: Fox (Johnson & Klatt)
Line: Michigan -7

Bruce Buffer the ring announcer for the UFC always seems like he is near a heart attack when he announces a main event.   He can't use the trademark catch phrase from his brother, so he created his own.  He yells with all of the veins popping out of his head and his face as red as a fire truck, "ITS TIME!".  That is what is happening at the Big House on Saturday early afternoon.   Both programs are going to show what they got after playing a questionable schedule.  How similar?

Number of losses between the 2 schools: 0
Tough road games against not-so-great teams:  Iowa and Auburn
Struggled in the State of Indiana: Games against Purdue and IU
Struggled at home: Maryland and Northwestern
Top 10: Both
Good Defense: Both
Balanced Offense: Both
Recruit the same players: Both

I think you get the theme.

Dear Jimmy,
You got a tough one this week as Penn State comes to the Big House.  Two top ten teams playing at noon, I know fits your college football sensibilities.   As I mentioned above, both programs have been on a similar path this year.   This is going to be tough, who wins the line of scrimmage type of game.  I know you had the attention of the team all week and that your squad will be ready for this one.

Penn State has not allowed anyone to run on them this year.  They allow 80 yards per game on the ground.  Though, they haven't seen anything like Blake and those boys up front.  My advice is to mix up the play calling a bit more this week, the offense can't be so predictable.   We need crossing routes, deep balls, and even a traditonal screen pass.   How about Edwards more involved in the pass game on short routes on 1st down?  You have experience playing Iowa and this defense will be similar.

Last year's game in Happy Valley came down to a long All catch and run and the pass rush closed it out.   I wouldn't be surprised if this game has a similar back and forth.  Michigan has to have better LB play as Penn State will isolate them with RB's out of the backfield and TE's.  I still remember Don Brown, having LB's trying to cover Barkley in the passing game.   I also know that Clifford is going to run for a few first downs on 3rd and 8, which will make my head explode.

Neither team can afford to make the mistakes they made in their last game, Michigan was making mental mistakes with 10 penalties and Penn State turned the ball over 5 times (in the rain) against Northwestern (prior to the bye week).

If your team is focused, plays clean, and keeps the Penn State defense guessing on the play calling, I believe the Maize Out crowd will give this team the "juice" to win the game.  Play Michigan Football in the Big House!

Anyone know if Michigan uses a tarp to cover the field before the game? I'm usually trying to finish one last beer and put food away and have never been inside early enough when it is raining.

This is the game we've been waiting for. The two contenders for the throne in the Big10 East. Penn St. is undefeated, but one could argue their schedule has been almost as easy as Michigan's. Clifford has never impressed me at QB for PSU, and neither has James Franklin. Jimmy's been holding out some explosive plays on offense just for this game. It's time to play those aces you've been holding, Jimmy. Unleash the Cracken! UM- 31, PSU- 27.

Can't predict a score but want a win! Go Blue!

No tarp as it’s turf field and has drainage. No need to cover it.

Another game I am nervous about...I think JJ runs more and often, if Croum is not having an effective game JJ's leg should be put to test. If Michigan loses chances of making the CFF will most likely slip away.

Mich 31 vs Penn 24

Go Blue
Bring Don Brown and his sexy mustache to OSU.
