Field goals are a funny thing, they can win you a game (TN over Bama), they can lose you a game (TN over Bama), they can be a win for the defense, and positive points for the offense. When you're dominating a game and can't get TD's, it also keeps a lesser opponent in the game. Field goals have a long list of pros and cons.
Michigan found themselves dominating Penn State on Saturday but not scoring touchdowns. They also found themselves trailing in that same game twice because of a couple weird plays and too many field goals. Michigan's passing game in the wind was ok, JJ was 17 of 24 for 145 yards with a pick 6 and Michigan's offense put the ball on the ground twice but was able to recover both fumbles.
Sounds like a bunch of stats and situations primed for Nittany Lion upset. There is one thing I didn't mention, Michigan had 418 rushing yards. Penn State in the prior 5 games had given up less than 400 yards all season.
Michigan ran over Penn State, like a piece of bologna on a train track. Edwards had 173 yards with a long of 67 yards and Corum had 166 yards with a long of 61. Did I mention, both of those long runs came on back-to-back possessions in the 2nd half? That is the story of the game.
Cheers:
- The mother f'ing offensive line
- Corum and Edwards WOW!
- Michigan's Dline for only giving up 111 yards on the ground
- Michigan's offense breaking tendencies
- Moody for making all the field goals
- For getting another top 10 win
- The Big House faithful coming out in Maize and giving the team a huge advantage
- Finishing the game when it looked like it might go in the other direction
- Michigan kept its cool in a chippy game with what seemed like an overblown halftime tunnel incident.
- Need more TD's
- Still no deep balls
- Pass rush was again inconsistent
- JJ can be smarter on some of his decisions/throws
- Can't let Clifford lose on that long run
- Pick 6 was a bit crazy/unlucky play but that ball should've been thrown to the bench

In a word, it was domination Saturday! Hard to find things to complain about, let's enjoy this big win and throw our hat into the ring for National Championship contender.
Yes, more TDs would be nice, but Jimmy did the smart thing and took the points as he was supposed to. You don't need to be a Dan Campbell and come up empty on 4th down.
J.J. is learning (and improving) with every game. McCarthy is ranked the number 12 QB in the country according to his QB rating.
Great crowd, great atmosphere in the Big House. Lloyd Carr was in the house, along with the 1997 Championship team. It really is 'Great to be a Michigan Wolverine'!
Does anyone in the Pac-12 or SEC play defense? I watched the USC/Utah game, along with the Bama/Tennessee game. I've seen more defense in an NBA All-Star game. I would feel confident with Michigan's chances against any of these teams.
The game was quite satisfying .... like having an extra-large pizza with your favorite toppings and not having to share.
Michigan is the "real deal" this year...who deserves the credit. Of course, Harbaugh does, but some one said it's not the x's and O's: It's the Joes, meaning if you do not have the players, you are not going anywhere.... hard to beat a team with one or two top running backs, nor can you beat a team with an over 70% completion rate. The running game was "out of this world", but as a few commenters have said before > where are the long balls (passes)... Jimmy is probably going for the high percentage plays and does not need the long ball. Great day to be a Michigan fan, but still Leary of NIL > but being a "fair weather fan" ... enjoy it while it's here! Just think Jimmy was on the ropes a few years back .... where would we be without him. Bring back Hoke(joke), and all his overweight staff?
"I've seen more defense in an NBA All-Star game." ahahahahahaha.... Love that.
I was checking ESPN all afternoon, as couldn't watch the game. Was visiting my daughter at 'Cuse and watched them dominate NC State. It was an incredible atmosphere... my ears are still ringing.
