The Original Michigan Monday: Too Early Look at Rutgers and the Aftermath of Tunnel Terror

Let's start with the tunnel incident first.   Here is what we know:

-Ja'den McBurrows a CB coming off an ACL injury was in the tunnel and there is video of a number of Michigan State players punching him.

-There is also a second video of Michigan starting CB Germon Green and an MSU player swinging his helmet at him.

There is a photo of McBurrows and Green walking in the tunnel together after the Penn State game as well.  I assume they're friends.

MSU President sent out a message that this is unacceptable and they are cooperating fully with the Big Ten and Police during the investigation.

Mel Tucker has suspended 4 players: Tank Brown, Khary Crump, Angelo Grose and Zion Young. Term undefined as the investigation is ongoing.

That is what we know so far.  Now, I will give you, my thoughts.

The players involved should be thrown out of Michigan State and the Big Ten.  They should also have to do a ton of community service.

The Big Ten needs to come down hard on Mel Tucker.  He is the leader of that team and needs to take responsibility for his team's actions.  If you watched the game on TV, you saw a man continually swearing at officials (when they made the correct call), and telling his team to keep chopping (or whatever that motion was).  He looked like a bomb ready to explode at any moment.  I'm not at MSU practices or around the program in any forum, but to me that is a man that tried to lead his team into battle being ultra-aggressive when he knew he didn't have the talent to match-up.  I'm all for motivation and firing up your team, but sometimes young men don't understand where the line is and that line was crossed in the Michigan Tunnel.   That is on the head coach and the program he runs.  He should be suspended 3 games without pay.   I'm pretty sure his team didn't act that way when Minnesota came into East Lansing a few weeks ago and ran them off the field.

On to Rutgers:

Record: 4-4, 1-4 in the Big Ten

Best Win: BC

Worst Loss: Nebraska

Last game: Lost 31-0 to Minnesota

Offense: Passes for 154 yards per (121 in the country) and Rushes for 150 yards per (66th)

Scoring: 20 points per game (228th) and give up 22.5 (87th)

Game: 7:30 on BTN, tickets from $36.

This is Iowa without a great defense.

Schiano has at least got this team back to some respectability, through better recruiting and the transfer portal.  Still a long way to go in this rebuild.  Rutgers needs 2 wins to make a bowl game.  Schedule doesn't have those wins:  Michigan, @MSU, Penn State, @ Maryland.  They hope to go 2-2 in that stretch with wins over MSU and Maryland.

  • Michigan needs some wins on the recruiting trail after last weekend.  There were plenty of great prospects in attendance including 2024 5-star QB Jadyn Davis.  Michigan got another CB for him this weekend on 24/7.

I flew up from Atlanta and my son flew up from Orlando for the game. It was our first night game at the Big House! The energy and excitement of the crowd was unbelievable, and we had so much fun! I know everyone wishes we could have scored more touchdowns, and I agree we played too conservative in the red zone and almost seemed to be playing not to lose rather than to win at times. However, Jake got some good work in that may be needed at some point down the road and the defense made big plays at crucial points, and we beat Sparty decisively! As has been said, this is always a wierd game that Sparty gets fired up for, so I was happy with the result. This was my 5th game at the Big House, and my best experience of them all! Don't know how I will top this one. GO BLUE!

You can go to Michigan vs OSU next year!!....CJ Stroud is leaving for NFL possibly? This should give Michigan good a chance of winning "THE GAME"...

Not sure why I'm sharing this, but I'm often reminded of a "friend" of a "friend" on Facebook that continually comments on my Facebook friend's posts seemingly just to comment. Nothing of substane. Just a compulsive commenter. Most comments are interpretted as trolling, but most are because I guess he feels he needs to post something. There always seems to be that 1 guy in life....fortunately, rarely 2 or 3 but always that 1.

Michigan man, we don't need the CJ Stroud, to leave and go to the NFL to win the game next year we'll win that game whether he's there or not.. GO BLUE 🏈

Agree, this starts at the top. To have that many players willing to jump a dude at a moment's notice like that says; 1. there is a complete lack of discipline in this sparty program 2. Their coaches didn't have them ready for the emotion of this game 3. you can take the rat out of the hood but can't take the hood out of the rat. B10 already has some questionable integrity by turning a blind eye to many $uckeye offenses and Pedophile State, but can't afford to show that they aren't putting student athlete safety foremost. For all the morale superiority we at Michigan have spewed against sparty, they constantly want to prove us right. Just a couple of years ago they had that spectacle of linking arms are trying to march over our players....Bush was having none of that. As Jimmy says "this behavior is sophmoric" but not has crossed the line into flat out unsafe. And don't blame the same tunnel that teams have been using for 100 years...this is suddenly to violent? Nah, it calls for self control. Chirping is one thing, assault is another...burn these dudes to the ground B10!

The game was underwhelming because of the red zone offense being a turd. There were 7 scores. At least 5 of those should have been TDs. It should have been at least 41 points for Michigan.

My take on the post-game incident…
• Dude swinging the helmet needs to be kicked off of the Michigan State team, lose his NCAA eligibility for all levels (D1, D2, and D3) for the remainder of 2022 through the 2025 season, and be charged with felony assault.
• The other Michigan State players that took part need to be given at least a 6 game suspension that carries over to the 2022 bowl season (assuming they can get to one this season) and into the 2023 season.
• Due to the MSU coaches and other administration failing to show any leadership (like their director of football ops running away into the locker room instead for trying to stop it), Michigan State should be given a bowl ban for the 2022 (assuming the can get to 6 wins…win 3 of their last 4) and the 2023 season which includes the Big 10 championship game.

As for the tunnel, Michigan needs to beef up security against rivals.
