Michigan Tuesday: If you come at the King - You Better Be Prepared

Michigan is the #1 brand in the Big Ten.  Yes, OSU has played better football the last 10-15 years, but Michigan is and will always be the top brand in the conference.   The Big Ten notified the Michigan program of a penalty that is due to be reveled on Wednesday.   Michigan has 2 days to respond.

I have a few thoughts.

1. There was a reported Big Ten - Michigan long meeting on Sunday.  There could be a negotiated settlement already in the works and they are just going through the process.  My best guess is that's not the case and the Big Ten is going after Jimmy for another suspension.  Today and Wednesday should give the Michigan lawyers plenty of time to file an injunction in court.   If the settlement is a $2M fine and no time, then we will take that, and Ross can pull that from in-between his couch cushions.

2. Michigan is about to go nuclear on the Big Ten and some conference teams.  There is already word on the street that some of Michigan's Big Ten opponents shared a document with their signs and signals.  If this goes legal, then everything is in play.  Including Ryan Walters who could also be accused of having Michigan's signals last year at Illinois.  If you come after Michigan for this sh*t, you better go after everyone in the boat.

Dan Wetzel's Pretzels had a good quote from the former UNLV head coach Jerry Tarkanian:  "9 out 10 teams are cheating, the 10th is in last place".  Now, I don't condone that Michigan should be cheating, but scouting and stealing signals is questionably over the line.  What Connor did was probably over the line, but it was one crazy guy trying to make a name for himself.  Michigan should be fined by the NCAA and Big Ten and everyone team should have helmet communication next season.

This is about to get interesting and the Big Ten stepping in because a bunch of crying Big Ten Coaches who are most likely doing something similar is going to be great theater.

  • MSU is a top 5 basketball team and lost last night in their season opener.
  • Penn State head coach James Franklin said something smart on Tuesday, he is not worried about the signs, he is worried about Michigan's talent.

Has anybody noticed the stark contrast in how ESPN and Fox are covering this? I can't help but think ESPN would be covering it differently if they hadn't lost the media rights to the BIG10.

Do not have all the facts, but having pics of our employee on CMU sidelines speaks volumes, and might be forcing Big Ten hands. As GOBLU previously stated .... where did the 15,000 come from .... what coaches had access to his computer schemes .... I understand Harbaugh's own kid had access.... anyone involved in the rule breaking should be bounced (including Jay - if he's guilty) .... but no penalty until investigation done.

Agree, ESPN has the "if it bleeds it leads" mentality and already angry with B10 for being told to take their cameras and stick them. Here's what I'm interested in; ESPN and many other outlets have already found Harbs guilty before the evidence. Once the evidence comes out, do they change their narrative or do they concede, maybe even apologize?? The answer...they don't care about justice, they care about narratives and getting Harbaugh. No matter what comes out; the ends justifies the means in their warped minds. Hard to think this isn't a distraction to the young players and really hard to believe this won't hurt recruiting. When this is over, people will disrespect or respect JH more. I'm gaining more respect for him as I see him take responsibility, tell the media to leave the players out of it, and stand on the sidelines with his chest out and coach!

...and don't let the irony of the matchup this weekend go unnoticed. Pedophile State may have the most egregious scandal in CFB history. Raping young boys in their own lockerroom with coaches fully aware. One coach spoke out and was destroyed. NCAA didn't come nearly as harsh as they reall could have and even retracted some of the punishment a short time later. Everyone may be stealing signs but nobody was raping boys in the lockerroom.

Guys cheaters will never win. Cheaters must pay the price..... I hope our players are not distracted. They are ready to go kick some ass in Happy valley.... I don't care what happens at the end. I just want Michigan to win at least a college football playoff international title.... Jimmy, Moscow at the end of the season he makes it all about him and not enough about the players. He must leave and bring in Uncle Urban to town. I'm sorry to say that yes, bringing Uncle Urban.....

The truth is that,"9 out 10 teams are cheating, and the 10th is about to cave." I don't know how anyone can call what they're doing cheating when it's common knowledge that, 1) anything that goes on the internet and 2) anything done out in public, is public information...everyone sees it. So if you're flashing signals to someone in front of everyone then anyone can get them. I'm going to tell you the truth guys, if Halle Berry walked in front of me butt naked, I don't care what her husband says, I'm going to look, it's public information. It's not cheating. If she sent me naked pictures of herself on my cell phone, I'm looking...electronics or not.

Now regarding the use of "electronics," when everyone at a stadium is using their cell phone cameras and folks at home are recording the game, and coaches get a special copy of the games...it's not difficult to have open or surreptitious access to this information anyway. Yes, I'm over simplifying this but think about it guys, all of the teams are doing this, and by virtue of the fact that some teams cracked Michigan's signals, and passed it on to other teams tells you right there that we have "Pots calling the kettle black," here. They are doing the same thing. I'm sure that these teams are doing what osu is doing and that is having dedicated staff to watch and decipher Michigan in everything they do. These teams are terrified of Michigan, especially osu and psu. IMHO!!!

By no meaningful financial metric is Michigan the B1G's biggest brand. OSU has had it beat in revenue for years, and if focusing strictly on brand/licensing, OSU passed Michigan last year and by a rather large margin comparatively to all the years Michigan eked out an advantage there. OSU also passed us in contributions revenue in the last few years. That's why they always say "money talks" and why this has any meaningful traction for immediate reprimand. Official Visit's high school recruit survey (with a 4-year rolling avg.) on branding ranking had OSU coming in second to Alabama. Michigan was 16th. The B1G is aware of this. OSU is the conference darling and has been for a decade or better; Michigan is just the constant fall-guy for a conference that finds no value in history.

Michigan doesn't have to be the "biggest brand" in the big10 in order to be effective if they leave the conference. Suffice it to say, that they without question is a large enough brand to make a significant impact should they leave the conference. I for one am hoping that Michigan finally does leave the conference so that you can have osu all to yourselves. IMHO!!!

Oh yes, Kid Adorable, interesting comments; please post "all" of your resources regarding your facts so that they can be followed up. That would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
