Breaking News: It's Over as Jimmy Goes to the Chargers

We got some bad information today that Jimmy was back in Ann Arbor.  He was not, he was still in LA trying to work out a contract.  He did just that about an hour ago and let Michigan know.

The expectation is Sherrone will be named head coach soon.  It's a good decision but Michigan doesn't have any other options.  The biggest question now remains if Jesse Minter will follow Jimmy to LA or stay at Michigan.  My expectation is he will head West to join Harbaugh and become the Chargers DC.

Yes, I have high regard for Sherrone but he is not Harbaugh.   He is going to have his hands full and inherit a pretty big problem if Jesse bolts to LA.

I appreciate coach Harbaugh for everything he has done to bring back the Maize and Blue and wish him good luck.   Still feel a little sick to my stomach.

After three years of trying little jimmy finally takes his Dog & Pony show to LA. About time.

Also feel depressed, even though it was pretty obvious he was going. Program will take a step back. Sherrone was a good short term coach, but Jim was there with him all week. Expectations should not be high and we need to search for a coach even with Sherrone at the helm. He is not the answer.

I wonder if he'll take OSU with him since he owns them?

Ryan Day probably feels like he just got paroled...

szanreno with a couple of accurate/comical comments about Ohio State .... Day is probably dancing to that shuffle dance song right now.

I do not blame Harbaugh for leaving ... he was suspended 6 coaching games, and still it probably is not over yet! All the money flying around, and NCAA is worried about a couple cheeseburgers. Good luck Jim, but do not look back but remember us and UofM.

szanreno said...

Who was the recruit that Harbaugh bought the cheeseburger for? Just curious...

FREEEEEDOM!!! Finally Michigan can hire a coach that wants to be at Michigan and treat the program with the respect it deserves. Harbaugh has held the program hostage while he pursued his personal goals. Thanks for the natty, but now Michigan has to deal with his NCAA violations.

ScottyDoggs said...

szanreno I could only come up with that is was two recruits (already committed who impromptu dropped in on Harbaugh... They might have been minors at the time so finding out might be extra difficult. NCAA is a bit picky about this situation, NIL rules are broken left and right, but they are worried about a couple burgers.... their underwear is a bit too tight! ... causing irritation and dubious worries about two hamburgers with cheese.

Day's nightmares will never end now....he ends up the punk bitch no matter how much $$ he spends buying players this year! Bwahahaha....eat it Day! Don't blame Jimmy at all, the NCAA has shit themselves too much! They broke saban who was making house money and didn't want to take it any more. At least now we know he's gone and don't have to check everyday to see if his bags are packed or not. Jimmy...you did it, you brought home the Natti. Go with God my good man.

Thank you Jimmy for everything you've done here. Good luck in L.A.! We'll miss ya!

We need an experienced coach to replace Harbaugh. I cannot re-live 4 years of Hell, experimenting with another Brady Hoke. Sorry Sharrone. Love ya, but you've got no head coaching experience. Zip. Zero.Nadda.

Brady2017 said...

Just because this is Michigan, you can't just plug anyone in as head coach and expect to win. Anyone remember former basketball head coach Brian Ellerbe? God shoot me! How about turtle neck Tommy Amacker? Please don't make me re-live those nightmares. Go poach someone else's head coach. Now.

Brady2017 said...

P.J. Fleck. Bryan Kelly. Nick Saban. Kick the tires, wtf. Call these people. Immediately.

Don't want us to end up like Notre Dame after inheriting an assistant coach to act as head coach. Won't work.

I kind of agree with blue in tenn. harbaugh used Michigan and Michigan used harbaugh. The difference is harbaugh leaves free with a dump truck full of money. Michigan gets to deal with whatever comes from an ncaa investigation & the transfer portal attrition that is sure to come.

To Jim I say Thank you for the memories & good luck. Oh and if you could assist Michigan in keeping the ravens coaching pipeline open we would be grateful.

Goose said...

Does anyone know if harbaugh even meet with the team to tell them in person or did all the players find out through social media?

Ron said...

Goose, yes I would like to know that too?

I'm sorry, I respect all your opinions, but I cannot root for him with LA. Just can't. IMHO he jerked the University around with his antics and possibly cost us a CFP final game against GA by be more focused on the NFL than the CFP game with TCU. He claims Bo is his idol, well this is something that Bo NEVER would of done. For those of you that aren't as long in the tooth, Bo turned down Texas A&M's oil money to stay in Ann Arbor. But I'm different, I don't root for players or coaches. I root for the Team! Once you leave my team, you're dead to me. I move on. I couldn't tell you where many former Wolverines are until I watch them play the Lions nor do I really care. Aiden is an exception of course as he and DPJ play for my NFL team!

And guys, there's no good time to lose your coach, but this is probably the best. 2024 was going to be a down year anyway. You're replacing the entire OL, 2 WRs, bell cow RB and of course JJ @ QB. Add to that, we have Texas on the non-con, and you're adding USC, Washington, and Oregon. Whoever we hire as the next coach, give him a chance, especially if its Sherrone Moore. He's NEVER going to replace Jim. Good or bad, Jim Harbaugh is one of a kind! If the team struggles next year, don't immediately dump on the coach. That's part of the reason RichRod failed. The fanbase NEVER accepted him. Look, Rich was a boob. His failing had a lot to do with him and his insistence to stick with a scheme that chased away Ryan Mallet and left us with 2 homeless guys playing QB that first year. Moore gives us the best chance of continuity and it college football, continuity is big!

Kind of weird that 3 out of the 4 this year's playoff teams coaches have left their teams, though one was kind of a trade.

You guys who bad mouth Harbaugh are idiots. Harbaugh has been asking for some protection and guarantees from Warde and the folks in control at Michigan for a few years. After all the success and giving back he's done, they didn't return the courtesy and give him what he wanted. Harbaugh is different and must be treated differently. Bama would have given Saban whatever he wanted. Harbaugh wasn't asking for things that are impossible or immoral to give.

Here is how the conversation has gone over the last year or two. Hey Warde, the NCAA is coming after us for some crap (bugergate and some petty functionary steeling signs) and I need some assurances from you and the administration that I have job security and protection if I decide to stay at Michigan. I'm not actively pursueing the NFL but if I don't get some assurances I will.

Also, I know the NCAA and everyone involved doesn't want to share the Billions of dollars made from college football with the student athletes. I want to share the revenue with players and I'm going public with it. Warde's respone, Jim I can't give you any assurances because I don't want to take a stand. This is a political job for me. If I get behind you wanting to share the revenue, they will come after me too.

The conversation contiues, Warde says most will blame you if you decide to leave so it's a win/win for me to be a lazy AD. We are Michigan and we don't need you. If you want to stay, you can because I have no legit reason to fire you. If you leave, most will blame you and say you weren't committed to Michigan. You know it's true because they don't know the behind the scenes discussions we are having right now.

Congrats to Warde and the administration at Michigan. Again, the decision of some seriously arrogant and selfish folks ruined a good thing for the student athletes and everybody that loves Michigan football. Jim would have stayed if Michigan would have given him some assurances.

Rob...Those are some of the DUMBEST comments I have ever heard. Little jimmy was all in...for little jimmy.

szanreno said...

Thom, so when negotiating something for yourself you're not in it for yourself? If that's true I have land for sale you may be interested in...

Brady2017 said...

Chowman- I agree. Once someone leaves, you're dead to me. No mixed alliances.

Big35Hurt said...

Vic Fangio became available today (coincidence?). He was Harbaugh's DC at 2 other stops including the 4ers in the NFL. Hopefully thats a sign that Minter will stay.

Rob said...

Thom, the comments are only dumb if you don't understand high stakes negotiations and what's going on inside the building. If you expect Harbaugh to put his needs, wants, and demands aside because it's his beloved Michigan you are naive. Maybe he did flirt with the NFL over the last few years but that is what you get with a high profile elite coach like Harbaugh. He's elite at both levels. Saban wasn't elite at the NFL level so nobody wanted him. He was strictly an elite college coach. Same for Urban. Harbaugh is different. This ball was dropped years ago and continued until last night when Michigan gave in and tried to save the situation. It was too late. Michigan let it get to far out of hand. You can't expect a coach to just sit and let Michigan dictate all the terms no matter if he loves Michigan. Michigan disrespected him.

Anyone who says that anyone who has left the team is dead to them has never been involved in sports and certainly not coached. Players that leave the team and coaches that leave the team turn out to be great friends and adversaries down the line not to mention the connections they can bring. So you guys who say that need to get back up in the stands and off the sidelines cuz you've never been there and you don't know what you're doing.
