Michigan Thursday: A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity

Have you ever been to Wrigley to watch a Cubs game?  How about a Michigan Football game?  The Big Ten released the Michigan Football Schedule on Wednesday and Michigan will play Northwestern at Wrigley as their new stadium continues to be built.  I expect this is going to be a hot ticket.

Not a bad schedule, no back to back home games is interesting: No Oregon, No Penn State, No Indiana, No Little Brown Jug game.   Ohio State opens against Texas.

  • What a strange day in coaching hires. UNC hires Belichick and WVU re-hires RR.  Both can be good for the programs or blow up quickly.
  • Michigan has offered Transfer Portal target Miami of Ohio WR Reggie Virgil.
  • Michigan has offered transfer portal target Tulsa WR Joseph Williams, who was the AAC Freshman of the Year.
  • Will Johnson declared for the NFL Draft.  Congrats Will and thank you again for picking Michigan.
  • Former Wolverine WR Andrel Anthony is back in the transfer portal after 2 years of injuries at Oklahoma.
  • Reports are Brian Hartline interviewed for the West Virginia job.

You had mentioned RR is back at WEST Virginia ..... I THINK HE WAS A MUCH BETTER COACH THAN MOST MICHIGAN FANS GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR, He took Arizona to Pac-12 championship while we were still squirming. The thing I hold against RR is he had a nice family and invited his girlfriend to be at the side lines along with his wife. And specifically had a Arizona employee at the game to keep them apart (can't make this stuff up){got him fired win she blew the whistle}. The reason I am writing this is RR became Head coach at WVA at 24? Is that a misprint or factual?

Scotty, Rich wasn't exactly a good dude, but football is full of guys that have questionable ethics. Can anyone say Bobby Petrino? That being said, there were factions at Michigan that didn't want RR as the Michigan coach, and may or may not of undermined him. At the very least, they never supported him!

I read John U. Bacon's book about RR, '3 And Out'. Rich Rod's problems weren't necessarily from his knowledge of football, he has an incredible mind, but from outside the lines and his leadership ability.

Wrigley Field is cool, as long as we don't have to change direction every possession because the field is too big for the stadium dimensions. Can't remember what Bowl game that was, but it was a joke to watch.

Soldier Field, or whatever b.s. cooperate name it is now, isn't available? That would've been my first choice.

What are the over/under odds for Bellicheck and Rich Rod still coaching at these schools after 4 years? I'll take the under. These are either genius moves or pure desperation.

I just question any coach in his 70s. I just think that's too old. Plus I don't see Belichick's personality working with today's college kids. He had a reputation of being a hard ass, and today's college players will just hit the portal after flipping him the bird!

Exactly. I'm trying to find the angle, cuz this is doomed from a W and L perspective. Are they going for the Deion effect? Advertising dollars? People will have to watch, just like a car crash.

i might get heat for this but i always questioned firing RR for Hoke, especially as RR's record got better each year - i didnt like the slow improvement, but i think i would have kept going with him at that point. I feel like he never understood rivalry games though - even at WV i think he would say the Pitt game is "just another game" and thought he said the same about OSU.

You won't have to do that, but there'll be no room behind the end zone. I think it'll be dangerous for the players and not a good football venue.

Brady, from UNC's perspective its worth a shot. They've never been able to gain much traction with the football program. So it give them some notoriety. To work he's going to have to be the CEO/figure head and delegate the recruiting to others. He'll be the game day coach and run practice but his staff will HAVE to do a lot more than other staffs. Kind like Saban the later years. It's also weird he only signed a 3 year deal, which is very short for college coaching hires. I've heard rumors he's going to hire his son Steve. If that's the case, he might very well be grooming his son to replace him.

BigBlue- He was 15-22 at Michigan w multiple off the field problems.

Ok, that must be it. Paving the way for his son. Good ole nepotism. Lol

N.C. needs to find its Hayden Frye or Barry Alverez. Someone to change the culture and stay there a while. The Bellichecks ain't gonna work.

Had RR hired a better D Coordinator (Robinson was one of the worst), they would have done better. DRob and team scored plenty of points, the D just gave up too many. Also...Hartline is biggest dbag on any team's sidelines.

You know, the 3-3-5 was new to me and I thought it was a bad scheme, but since then, I've seen quite a few schools use that scheme to varying degrees of success. So yeah, Robinson was a bum. But then RR coaches in the same vain as Lincoln Riley, where he only cares about the offense and doesn't give a sht about D. he's done that at every stop.

Brady, Blue's not entirely wrong. RRs teams were getting better and it was his recruits that Hoke won with. That was kind of a strange trend. Hoke did better with RRs recruits than he did with his own and then Harbaugh followed suit. His first couple of years were with Hokes recruits and then he scuffled at first with his own guys. Outside of factions within Michigan sniping at him, Rich was his own worst enemy. He was an example of a coach that was going to do it his way, no matter what skill set his players had. He didn't even attempt to keep Ryan Mallet. What a lot of people don't realize is when RR was the Tulane OC, they ran a very high octane passing attack with Shaun King.
