Michigan fans were frustrated with the lack of portal participation from the National Champions last season. Yes, the coaches were focused on winning but maybe they were also focused too much on their new jobs. Everyone knew where Michigan would struggle in 2024 and we weren't wrong.
That won't happen again, right? Michigan has picked up the big WR they have been looking for from IU over the weekend and Monday picked up a high ceiling offensive lineman from FSC Cal Poly and a duo of DB's from Arkansas who happen to be brothers from Nico Collins old high school. This is not bad for a two day span getting 4 players from the portal.
The problem is they lost out on it's presumed QB who was predicted to be coming to Ann Arbor on Friday. Dual-threat Maryland QB Billy Edwards, Jr. who did not visit Ann Arbor on Monday and picked Wisconsin over the Wolverines. Wisconsin had a good day on Monday and picked up 2 QB's out of the portal. Not sure what happened here, was it a money issue? Did Billy cool on Michigan or did Michigan cool on him? The portal is the Wild West and things change very quickly.
Michigan needs to land its starter for next year and they need to land him soon!
- Former Michigan QB Alan Bowman declared for the NFL Draft
- DJ U did the same
- Backup kicker from Huron High Adam Samaha is in the portal
- OSU backup QB Air Noland is in the portal
- Detroit Lions injuries are just terrible news for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

Guessing air noland isn’t in our radar, no experience and only a soph next year.
Selling a QB in the portal on Michigan is going to be a tough sell. Michigan backed up a brinks truck to land Bryce Underwood and like it or not there's going to be immense pressure for him to be the starter as soon as he steps on campus. I know some thought he might red shirt or at least be slowly integrated into the offense. That's not reality in 7 figure NIL deals. This isn't your Grandpa's college football.
The Lions went from SB favorites to long odds to make the SB. You alway worry if a team is peaking too soon. I've never seen a team so ravaged by injuries in my life. You were already putting guys off the street in prominent defensive roles. There are just no guys left. Losing D-Mo was a huge hit too. I don't want to hear "well you still have Gibbs". A big part of that offense is being able to hit you with a 1-2 punch.
And the run game went from averaging 5.2 yds per carry, which was best in the league the first 12 games, to 3 something, which is middle of the pack. What does that mean? I think you're OL is beat up. Outside of Penei Sewell, I think the rest of the OL is nursing injuries. I've never seen Frank Ragnow knock on his ass like he was in the Buffalo game. Decker was coming off an injury, Ragnow was pushed around, Zeitler may of had his worst game as a Lion, and Glasgow might be showing his age.
Our current QBs, Underwood and J. Davis, both haven't thrown a pass yet in college football. We have to land a bonified QB in the portal, and the pay scale is going to steep.
The portal is only open until Dec 28th, so load up the bagmen, put them on Santa's sleigh, and let them start passing out hundred dollar bills like they were candycanes. No D2 tryhard guy, either. The only other option is to wait until April 18th for the spring portal when guys learn they aren't starting. Then you have 3 months to give them a crash course on the offense.
Our current QBs are both talented but raw, so do we want 3 like that? Nolan is definitely a talent, but I think Sherrone is looking for someone w experience.
Hard pass on rumored transfer Dequon Finn. He's Alex Orji 2.0. Please God, no.
exactly this - with bryce coming in, and with that NIL deal, i wouldnt anticipate we would get a good transfer QB option. i would certainly try to advise my kid to think hard about transferring as a QB here if they wanted to play....again...this is because of bryce and the NIL deal
GBB: your going to get a body, but he's not going to be a starting caliber QB. Best bet is to get a D2 or D3 QB that over performed that just wants to move up to D1 and get paid to do so.
I think you need to temper your expectations. I think the issue is 2 fold for Michigan. One: The paid a lot of money for Bryce Underwood and 2: they paid a lot of money for Bryce Underwood. What I mean by point #2 is they aren't going to pay top dollar for another QB. Too many other holes to fill.
and Brady, I do think you're going to end up with a try hard, D2 guy. Sorry but its reality. You were never getting Miller Moss or Billy Edwards. Doesn't matter Bryce Underwood has never thrown a pass in college, he's your 2025 starter unless he completely blows or gets hurt.
Chowman- Idk. I think the best scenario for Bryce is to ease him into playing, not forcing him in. Similar to how Jimmy handled J.J. his first year. Maybe Bryce is ahead of the curve? We shall see.
Brady first Sherrone is no Jim Harbaugh and second you got JJ for a cheeseburger no $12m
You're being bit unfair. In his college career he has 63 passing tds and over 7k yds. Most were at Toledo, but he's better than Orji. This is exactly the type of QB you can expect to get
I want John Mateer, the number 1 rated transfer QB available, and we have the financial backing to get him. Dont need some mediocre 6th year QB in Dequon Finn. I've seen John O'Korn and Jack Tuttle play. We all know how that movie ends.
