They are who we thought they were. A very young offense with out a proven QB and a defense Michigan will need all year long to stay in games. When Michigan wins they will win ugly and Saturday was one of those ugly wins.
The game started fast for the Wolverines with two things that didn't happen in the Utah game: a quick 3 and out stop by the defense and a long touchdown drive by the offense. Odoms was running in space and Threet was tricking the defense his feet. Yes, his feet.
The Michigan defense then got another turnover which resulted in a field goal and then another stop which resulted in a missed field goal. That was it for two quarters. Nothing out of the offense at all. Threet was over throwing WR's and then Sheridan entered which seemed to take the rest of the air out of the balloon of the offense.
Michigan finally showed some killer instinct in the 4th quarter when McGuffie (the star of the game) got off for a couple of runs and nice long scamper on a screen pass. Minor scored on a nice sweep to put Michigan up by 10.
I am officially now not in favor of the QB switch out, unless one if failing measurably. Threet is the real QB and needs more time and game action to get used the offense. Sheridan did lead the winning drive but didn't do anything but hand the ball off to McGuffie. I need to see one QB for the entire game (unless he is throwing picks and fumbling), so they can get the proper experience they need to win games during the Big Ten. Threet looked liked the guy in the first couple of drives. Sheridan has done nothing since his average first quarter performance against Utah. I don't believe Sheridan has the arm strength he needs to play at this level.
A win is a win, but we can thank the defense for keeping Miami out of the end zone. I believe the biggest play of the game was when Brandon Harrison knocked the ball out of the hands of the Miami WR for a sure fire touchdown.
There is still plenty to work on in practice this week with ND coming up next Saturday for Michigan's first road game. ND looked like last year on Saturday, scrambling for a win over Chuck Long's San Diego State Team. Should be a match up of big names with young/inexperienced teams. If you like turn overs and 3 and outs this is the game for you!
A win is a win and I'm sure glad Miami over threw those open WR's deep all day.
Cheers:
- Michigan's Defense
- McGuffie was the star of the game with 74 yards rushing and 32 receiving
- Brandon Harrison's pass break up in the end zone
Jeers:
- The QB shuffle
- The QB's accuracy
- The offensive line played better but not well enough
- The Offense's execution in the 2nd and 3rd quarters
- Stevie Brown seems get beat often
Injuries to report from the game:
- Shaw has a groin injury
- Ortmann went out with an arm or elbow injury
- Brown is still banged up and did not play
- Greg Matthews didn't dress

Re: QB situation
Confidence precides competence....and yesterday UofM QBs gained more confidence in that ugly win.
