It what seems like a complete 180, Shavodrick Beaver has de-committed from Michigan and committed to Conference USA's, Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.
He committed to Tulsa after in home visits from 3 Tulsa coaches: “It’s about who you’re going to be with over the next four years,” Beaver said on Friday, adding that proximity played a big role. “I was impressed with how (the Tulsa coaches) carried themselves. They told me everything that was offered, and everything they said made sense.”
Beaver said TU coach Todd Graham discussed the importance of growing as a person away from the football field, an emphasis that Michigan didn’t approach. It made a difference, the player said.
In another quote: "It's about family, faith and friends. I needed to go to Tulsa. Tulsa is all about family. They have great support there with the coaches, team and university. Picking a school is not all about the logo."
BHB opinion: I know 18 year old kids change their mind and want to be closer to home, but this seems like a very short sighted decision. He picked Tulsa over Michigan? Anyway you compare the schools, Michigan wins. The only negative is that Ann Arbor isn't in Texas or Oklahoma. Don't get me wrong he has every right to change his mind, but he left a chance to earn a very valuable Michigan degree, to start at a major BCS program that is on TV every week for a Conference USA team that gets little to no coverage at all.
Not to completely throw this young man under the bus, but I'm guessing he heard the rumors that he would redshirt next year or be the third string QB behind Forcier and Threet and decided that being a Golden Hurricanes was a better situation.
BTW: Beaver has been saying things like he was 100% committed to Michigan and was excited to start classes in January as late as Wednesday of this week. Doesn't make much sense.
Look for Michigan to pursue: Tajh Boyd and Eugene Smith.

What was he thinking??? Michigan or Tulsa??? HELLO.... Perhaps it's better that we found out now that this kid is not as smart as we thought he was. He just proved it. Academically things might have been an issue. I never understand decisions of the heart in a matter like your future. Let's think about this.....the chance to earna degree and play for MICHIGAN, or let's go to Tulsa, OK, play ball and maybe graduate with a degree from a community college, esentially.
