Wolverine Wednesday: RR's Spring Presser Notes

Coach Rod met with the media on Tuesday and here are a couple of highlights.

  • Both Tate and Denard are splitting time with the #1 unit. RR said he likes to have two guys that he can win with. Denard is getting better understanding of the offense in his first Spring Ball. The spring buzz is that Denard is looking more and more like the starter in the Fall. We will see how that turns out. Spring buzz doesn't get you much after the ball is kicked off in September.

  • The Running Backs are doing well. Mike Cox has been very solid, Shaw has had great days and some average days. "Stephen Hopkins is a big guy, and we needed a big back with Minor and Grady graduating. Even as a true freshman, him coming in early is going to help his chances to play some in that role." Fitz Toussaint has had a productive spring and has gotten bigger and stronger. Kelvin Grady and Terrance Robinson are also getting snaps at running back.

  • Safety depth is still a concern with Vlad still banged up. Cam Gordon has done well and that was a good position change.

  • The injury report is pretty much of what I reported yesterday with these guys banged up and expected back this week: Martavious Odoms, Junior Hemingway, Je'Ron Stokes, Vlad Emilien, Jared Van Slyke, and Quinton Washington.
