Brady Hoke will be meeting with David Brandon near LA late this afternoon. Hoke is in the LA area recruiting.
One of the things that was in question was why David would be flying to the LA area when Brady is in San Diego. That mystery is now solved.
After David signs Brady, maybe they can take a tour of celebrities homes or spend his new signing bonus on Rodeo Drive. They should sign the paperwork at the Rose Bowl.
Well Done, Mr. Brandon. This is not going to end well.
***Update: The Detroit Media is all over the above report and saying that Brady Hoke is the guy. Since the Detroit Media hasn't been right for 3+ years about anything related to Michigan football, I'm guessing Michigan must be looking elsewhere. :-)

From reading articles and comments from the San Diego area articles, it seems Hoke is very well-liked and respected. People seem sad to see him go, but realize that Michigan would be his well-deserved dream job and are happy for him.
If he wants the Herculean task of turning Michigan around and his willing to leave his cushy SDSU job to jump into the Big House frying pan, then he gets my support.
I think we'll are unite behind anyone who comes on-board. But, is firing RR to get Brady as the replacement a step forward? I think not, but only time will tell. And, after the last week, it will not surprise me if he rejects his alma mater also.
Not sure why the negativity about Hoke. He has done a solid job at each of his head coaching stops, has done a solid recruiting job in both cases, and built sound teams. It seems we have exactly what the base wanted...Michigan "Bo" roots, good assistant coach experience, and head coach/head recruiter experience. As a bonus, he runs a spread variation which should keep Denard plugged in. We might be looking at the Heisman front runner next year. A jump in defensive performance coupled with more consistent offensive production we are back on track. Deep breath everyone....Miles may have done us a favor.
Brian at Mgoblog is saying that the plane is now being used by Dominos executives for some trade show in LA on Wednesday.
I don't know what to believe anymore.
I think it would be a step forward for a lot of reasons:
I don't think RR proved to be a good coach. Halftime adjustments, which I think say a lot about a coach, were unimpressive. The defense....(enough said). His stubborn insistence on his "type" of players which just aren't big enough for Big Ten play.
From what I've read, Hoke is a step forward. My only concern is whether he's flexible enough to work with -- and improve, and win with -- the talent on hand while he brings "his" players in. To me, that's the biggest prerequisite.
I wasn't a huge fan of Miles for reasons everyone knows about.
I also agree that Hoke as done a good job at SDSU and Ball State.
I just don't think those schools give you the experience you need to coach the Wolverines. But I also have to agree that is the trend right now. Pitt hires the Tulsa coach, Miami hires the Temple coach, Minnesota hires North Ill. coach and so on.
Good job at Ball State, eh?
So let's look at Brady Hoke's time at Ball State:
3 seasons before he coached they went
5 wins
5 wins
6 wins
The next years they went:
4 wins
2 wins
4 wins
5 wins
7 wins
12 wins
WOOO HOO!!! It only took him 5 years to get a better win total than the previous coaching staff... CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS TO BEGIN at UM!
Bo's experience at Miami of Ohio seemed to prepare him well for Michigan. And at the time, it was much smaller comparitively than SDSU is now.
I'm hoping that Brady (if we get him) will make all of us whiners eat crow and I'll line up and kneel and bow to his greatness.
But, I believe that the college football landscape has changed in the last 40 years and Bo-ball & Carr-ball will not get us to the top anymore. If all we're looking for are "Bo-disciples" for coaches, then we are in for more disappointment. Just my 2 cents....
Ohhhhhh! Noooooo! Nooooo!
This article makes me optimistic about Hoke:

Q... I read the same article and from a quality writer on top of it all (something we're not used to around here).
It definetely turned my head!!!
Too bad he works for Fox. Still, he's always been a good writer.
Another good Hoke article
I was concerned about "favoritism" about Brady Hoke by the beat writers at the Rivals site for Michigan.
In particular, one was continually pushing the case for Brady Hoke and, secondarily, for Les Miles. I suspected that he might be pushing the case for a suspected Administration bias along with the current AD for Michigan to bring Brady Hoke back to Michigan.
Here is the letter to the Rivals Site that precipitated my Black Listing for my suspicions:
Chris..
Through numerous updates on candidates the beat goes on continuously about Brady in glowing terms. Most of us can visit neutral extensive sites about Brady. If I may ask a simple question. Is our site subject to publishing control by the University of Michigan AdMin? The articles posted by the Mods ever since the inception of a HC search by DB reeks of favoritism of those actually in control of the University and DB. I feel if you keep publishing the same story, again and again, about Brady and Les you give the impression that we should go along with your continuous endorsement of those two candidates. Little was offered about JH and John H or any other candidate that was in play. Cloak and Dagger or a directive to do so from above, the AdMin. Please explain.

They needed to get Harbaugh, IMO. That was the best opportunity to get Michigan back to prominence very quickly, and it is a swing and a miss.
I don't need to share the opinion of the people in charge... we are capable of thinking for ourselves. If I knew they were going after a Stoops, for example, and had a chance to get him, I'd be all over that. As it stands, Michigan's best chance at getting back to being Michigan is to hire Les Miles, have Lloyd Carr there to greet him at the presser and get everyone back on the same page.
I like Brady Hoke, but if you hire him, factions explode. Period.
Like several former players, it makes me sleep a little better at night knowing someone with a Bo Schembechler pedigree is in charge of this place. Others might differ, but that's who I am.
And the fact that you think I'm some kind of shill is insulting.

As I right this letter Michigan just officially announced the hiring of Brady Hoke as the 19th Head Coach of Michigan.
Thank you again, CB, for your undying support of Brady Hoke as the new coach of Michigan Football.
Done deal. It's Hoke.
GO BLUE!
Not sure if the nightmare is finally over or just beginning. But Go Blue!
Michigan Rivals Board is beginning its usual "Meltdown."
The powers high in the Michigan Administration have spoken. To forgive is not to forget!
Thank you, Mr. Brandon, for following our instructions. It worked like a charm.
