Michigan Friday: Summer Time Close and Brandon Talks on Scheduling

Will Michigan's 2013 class be finished up before the season starts?  It's hard to say right now but I don't believe it will.   These last two spots are targeted towards high profile guys and we know it take a long time to reel those prospects in.  The BBQ at the Big House in late July will probably be full of 2014 kids but if Michigan could get a Laquon Treadwell up for example could be a good thing.

I really thought some of the top WR's in the class would be lining up to play with a 5 star QB like Shane Morris.   It seems the top guys for the last 2 spots are Treadwell, Bailey, McQuay III, Green, Wilkins and Fuller.  The latest on Bailey is that Michigan might be a bit too far away from home.

Brandon talked about his philosophy about scheduling some of these games“Part of the objective [of scheduling] is creating contests that are interesting to people, that are fascinating to people, that are contests that people want to talk about,” Brandon said after a news conference to introduce Michigan's new baseball coach. “People are talking about them."

“When we looked at all of that, we thought it was terrific,” Brandon said. “I’ve said all along, we’re not going to do the 110,000 people on a Thursday night in Ann Arbor, or a Friday night. It doesn’t work for us. But in Salt Lake City? We thought it was a terrific opportunity.”

Couple of things I would like to highlight:  If Michigan drops another game to App. State people will talk and will talk for along time.   Second, how does a night game on a Friday night of Labor Day weekend any different then a Saturday night game?  I understand you have to sign home and home contracts with programs but I'm pretty sure most Wolverine fans would prefer a home game (even on a Friday night) verse one in Dallas or Salt Lake City.

  • Sam Webb does his regular Thursday Detnews article on 2014 LB Michael Ferns III.  Sounds like a bright young man.

  • New Michigan baseball coach Erik Bakich who is at a young age of 34 is planning to recruit hard for Wolverine Baseball.

  • Jourdan Lewis has been invited to the Army All American game.  Congrats Jourdan on that honor!

  • Both Zack Novak and Stu Douglass are planning to play ball overseas.  It seems Stu has signed a contract to play for a team in Pamplona, Spain.
