Larry Lage, AP reporter just tweeted:
#NotreDame
has notified #Michigan
it is exercising a 3-year out in their contract, meaning their last scheduled
game will be in 2014.
This means they will be replacing Michigan on their schedule with the likes of Maryland or North Carolina, one of thier new ACC partners.
This could be the end of the rivalry. Which I'm torn on, I'm not real thrilled about Brandon scheduling more games but it does open the door for some interesting match ups. It could also take a difficult away non-conference game off the schedule every two years. On the other hand, ND hasn't been a real power in the last 20 years and a win over that program gets more credit then it's really worth.
I wish this would have happened after a Michigan win but it is what it is.

I think we really saw it coming, especially when they announced their moving into the ACC conference. They obviously knew what they were going to do before the wrote their letter to David Brandon, and it sounds as though they didn't give Michigan the professional courtesy of a phone call, now that was a no class (not low class) move.
You know how I feel about Michigan dropping ND so I'm on board with it. As you've stated ND wasn't much of a factor on the national scene either for the most part of the last twenty years or so. As much as I'd personally like to see the Oklahoma’s, Texas, and Georgia’s of the world, we know because of the need to have at least maybe seven home games a year, we will likely see the Northern Illinois’ and the Chittlin Switch States instead.
We do have two more years to beat on ND some more, and then good riddance.
Let's get that SEC games going. Not the low SEC, but the mid to high. You will never know who or were u are until u start playing against them.
I agree, we also know that most of the upper tier SEC schools are booked [according to MGoblog] through something like 2016. I believe Michigan will be in great shape by then and should be able to take on anyone in the country; however, for the next year or two we may be risking being manhandled stepping up in class if we move too high too fast.
And that's taking into consideration who our QB will be next year and at that time, if they're a freshman or sophomore; if the O and D lines will be stable with quality depth, etc.
I would be in for some South Carolina!
What about a team like Cincinnati? 3.5 hour drive could do a home and home and play at Paul Brown.
Pitt? Kentucky? Louisville?
I like the Pitt, Louisville, and Cincy, but taking on the SEC is how it needs to be. Lets get South Carolina on the schedule. I live in the south and that's all i hear is sec. it's time to take them head on. This will put our recruiting in the next level.
this a far fetch, maybe borges can do better. I don't know what came over me to type that.
I'm still hoping we can find another offensive line coach.
I am not too worried about finding a replacement for 2015 since Michigan already has at Utah, and home games against UNLV and Oregon State. I'm fine with Brandon filling the ND spot with a directional Michigan U or another MAC team if the ICS stays at 8 games.
Beginning in 2016, I want one (or two depending on what is available in the Big 12) of the following SEC schools: Auburn, Mizzou, Georgia, or Florida. I'd also like to see a Big 12 team: TX Tech or KSU until Oklahoma, TCU, or Texas are available. For the other OOC games, a MAC team (directional Michigan U) and or a Mountain West team (Air Force, Fresno St., Nevada, etc.).
Week 1- SEC Team
Week 2- SEC or Big 12 Team
Week 3- MAC or Mountain West
Week 4- MAC or Mountain West (bye week if ICS goes to 9 games)
For the hypothetical Week 1 opener against an SEC team, I’d like to see a neutral site game in either STL (the border of B1G and SEC territory) or to invade ACC country and play in Washington DC area.
