Michigan State Preview

link
Time: 3:30 EST
Location: Big House
TV: BTN
Weather:  High of 54, 30% chance of rain
Line:  Michigan -9.5

This is one of those games where my head and gut have a difference opinion.   My gut says the Michigan seniors have had enough of State for the last 3-4 years and going to roll the Spartans by 20+ points in this game.

My head says, State has a good defense and since they have pretty much blown their season with 3 home losses, this game is their BCS Bowl and they are going to play very well.  I always go back to the point, Has Denard ever beat a really good defense?  No, he hasn't.

Gholsten is good DE but suffered a concussion a couple weeks ago and hasn't really dominated a game like we know he can.  Gholsten vs. Lewan is a match-up to watch.  Worthy and his tattoo of a Michigan helmet with a M on it, is now in the NFL.  Bottom line, State's defense was better last year.

Tale of the Tape:

MSU O vs. Michigan D = Greg Mattison
Gholsten vs. Lewan =  Push to the head, Push, Push, Slap, Push
Denard vs. Turnovers = Difference in the Game
Big House vs. MSU on the Road = Huge + to the Big House
0-4 vs. Little Brother = Big Brother

Vegas isn't buying MSU at all while making the Wolverines a double digit favorite (now 9.5).  They are leaning more with my gut.  I thought Michigan played better then State last year in East Lansing but the weather, a few bad play calls and a Denard turnover cost them the game.   This year will be a different story.

Sing Hail to the Victors if...................................
  • Denard has zero turnovers
  • Denard gets 150 yards on the ground and another 150 in the air.
  • A Michigan RB gets some open running lanes.
  • Big Al calls a smart game
  • Michigan's defense sets up at least 2 touchdowns
Say, Damn little brother is playing much better if....................
  • The MSU defense is creating turnovers
  • MSU's Tom Foolery surprises the Michigan Defense
  • Michigan can't find any running holes
  • A low scoring game that could turn on one play

Let's face it, both teams have been a disappointment here at mid-season.  The difference is Michigan has lost two games away from the Big House against the #1 and #5 ranked teams in the nation.  MSU has lost home games to ND, OSU and un-ranked Iowa.   Michigan is playing better since their ND loss and MSU is playing worse.     Both play solid defense and both at times have struggled on offense.  So what's the difference?

Denard Robinson

A senior QB with out a win against Michigan's in-state rival.  Denard has wins against OSU, 2 against ND and a BCS Bowl win.  He hasn't beaten Michigan State and this is his last chance.  If Denard doesn't turn the bowl over, I think Michigan wins and wins big.   If he does turn the ball over, that could turn momentum and keep Sparty in the game.   I think we will see the Denard from the Nebraska and OSU game last year.

Sparty is going to throw everything at Michigan to win this game.  Expect all types of trick plays.   I have a feeling Big AL has been setting up the offense the last three weeks by staying pretty vanilla.  I expect Denard sets up the run and beats State with some good throws to guys like Roundtree.  I'm going with my Gut.

Wolverines to Watch:  Roh & Big Will on defense.   Gardner and Funchess on offense.

Michigan 28 MSU 10

Go Blue!

Memo to David Brandon:  Please no new jerseys for this game.  Keep the traditional look and go back to beating State on a yearly basis.

Congratulations to the Detroit Tigers!  Win the World Series!

how bout you start wearing green or scarlet or get a tattoo the fighting irish. I agree on the play calling, but these team is light years from were they were under RR. The defense is stout under Mattison. We are right around the corner from were we use to be. So with that attitude either hush or root for someone else.

MABB....are you crazy? Under RR, Denard & company were going off on defenses, but our D sucked! If you think 4 field goals is Michigan football, you're crazy!!! As far as your suggestion, we shouldn't have lost to ND nor Bama except for turnovers...and I'll always be BLUE and my fist is willing to prove it anytime, so F Off!!!!

You are a blog gangster, huh. If you like breathing just keep typing and let that be that.

Back to MICHIGAN football. RR is good for offense, but this is big boy football and you got to have a DEFENSE, which we do have now. AB has to make play calls to DR strengths thats how the offense gets to rolling. The 1st game he was wanting denard to stay in the pocket aka will not work, in the ND game he saw denard out of sync due to pass and kept calling pass plays. He has to understand let DR do DR. In the last game DR was better off passing than running state has always had that number.

Oh yeah get a RR tatt on your neck since you miss him so much. If he was here we will still be struggling on defense. Yeah he brought us great players, but set us back 6 yrs. I guess i'll call that a loss for the gain.

I wanted Hoke when Lloyd retired, cause i saw how good he was on other levels. If that would have happen we might have another NC.

Why am i wasting my time with RR hoes

MABB, they did not play Denard to his strengths, hence the loss. Use of a two back set would have worked better w 2 TE's. As for next year, who's QB? Bellomy has little experience and Gardner catching balls will spell trouble for the offense. As far as your comments, quit sniping on the blog and grow up. BLUE here - I'm out.
