MSU Post Game: 3 Yards and a Cloud of Dileo

 Melanie Maxwell Ann Arbor.com

In a game that Bo Schembechler would love, Michigan won 12-10 without ever getting into the end zone.  Michigan was favored by 10 points and they scored 12 and won.

The defense on both sides played great and the both offenses struggled to gain yards.  MSU had 112 yards rushing and Michigan had 163.   MSU had the edge in passing with 192 yards to Michigan's 163.   Yes, the Wolverines had the exact same yards running and throwing.

Bell was held to 68 yards and Denard was held to 96.

It was a hard game to watch and it seemed Big Al didn't have a game plan for State's defense.  My only explanation is that someone must have played a prank on Big AL and glued his play book together and he only had a handful of plays to call.  Or Lloyd Carr was the guest OC for the day and started calling plays.   I give the defense on both sides credit but it seems to me that when State blitzes on passing downs, there has to be WR's open down field.

Thank goodness for Brunettes!  Gibby you have come a long way in two years!  Great kick!

Cheers and Jeers:

Cheers:
  • The Linebackers Demens, Morgan and Ryan all had a great day.  What a great unit!
  • Gibbons and Wile big kicks and all Michigan's points
  • Denard finding a way to win
  • Drew Dileo almost had a 100 receiving yard day.  Great clutch catches.
  • The defense for letting Michigan win a game with 12 points
  • A win is a win
Jeers:
  • Having MSU's punter almost beat us
  • Gardner for dropping the long pass
  • Big Al for another poor game plan
  • A few bad penalties
  • Not being ready for trick plays, when we all knew they were coming
  • Denard for not handing it off enough on the read option

Remember when we used to complain about Michigan's linebackers and field goal kickers?
Not anymore!

If your on offense, I don't think you want to watch much tape of this game.   Denard basically had one big run and had trouble finding Michigan's WR in the passing game.   The 2:00 minute offense looked pretty bad minus the Vincent Smith run and the pass to Dileo.  But at the end of the day, Denard can say: This Michigan offense has beat a good defense and in his career at Michigan, he has beat all the Wolverines rivals at least once.   A win is a win and MSU's streak is over.

BTW:  Michigan did get a 2014 commit from 6'9 OL Denzel Ward.  More to come on this big fella.
