Michigan Friday: Wolverines Get A Win Over Wofford

Robin Buckson / The Detroit News
I don't like where this Michigan team is heading.   I really didn't like the lapses in play in the Big Ten Tournament and I thought they were sloppy against a poor Wofford team last night.   Michigan was very inconsistent last night and seemed to miss a boat full of shots around the rim.  GR3 scored 14 points on 14 shots and Nik scored 15 on 9 shots.   The Wolverines shot 47% from the field and 41% from 3  (and 66% from the line).  Wofford shot 34% from the field and 5% from 3.  Which equaled an easy Michigan win.

If Michigan doesn't step up their play on defense, it will for sure limit their run in this tourney.   When a team shoots poorly, you can point to two things: a great defense or an off night.   The Terriers had an off night shooting as most of their looks were good ones.

I like Michigan over Texas but I hope to see a bit more inspired play from the Wolverines.   Texas scored 87 points in their game last night with 46 in the second half.   Michigan scored 23 points last night in the second half of their win.   This tournament is all about surviving and moving on,  lets hope Michigan plays like they can on Saturday and can move to the Sweet 16.

The good thing about basketball is, you can have a completely different team from night to night.   Michigan gets it's energy from hitting 3's and getting turnovers into easy dunks and lay ups.  Let's hope Coach Beilein can find away to get this teams mojo back.

Michigan vs. Texas at 5:15 on Saturday.

More bad news from the football program:

  • Graham Glasgow has been suspended for a portion of spring football, will miss season opener for a violation of "team expectations".  Hard to guess what a violation of team expectations could be.   Usually they say team rules, so maybe it's due to missing class or something like that.

  • Taylor Lewan will be charged with three misdemeanors for an assault in Ann Arbor on Dec. 1.  Taylor is charged with getting into a fight with an OSU fan the night of loss to the Buckeyes.  He will be arranged at 9 a.m. on April 8.

Some Positive News:
  • LTT has been cleared for contact and now will practice fully this spring.  He has just been doing drills so far.   Joey Burzynski will not practice this Spring, as he still is recovering from his ACL.

One source indicated that Graham's violation was driving related. So I guess if it's true, speculatively it could be something like, DUI or driving without license or insurance, something silly like that. Who knows???
