Wolverine Wednesday: Morris vs. Gardner For The Litttle Brown Jug

Michigan is playing for the oldest trophy in college football this weekend and it seems like only Golden Gopher fans care.   Michigan continues to shoot itself in the foot with a Coke give-away and what looks like the lame duck head coach and athletic director.    The only thing that seems to be going Michigan's way is the 1-2 San Francisco 49'ers.

Many football guys, feel to be a good football team you need two things: a great head coach and a great QB.   Michigan arguably has neither right now.  Devin Gardner played his best QB right after he moved from WR after Denard's injury.    So that leaves Coach Hoke and Nuss with a decision, do they play the 5th year senior or the second year guy?

The best way to settle it, is with the tale of the tape:

Morris vs. Gardner
Experience = Gardner
Size and Mobility = Push
Speed = Gardner
Arm Strength = Morris
Future = Morris
Needing New Look = Morris
Catchable Ball = Push
Leadership = Gardner

This is a hard decision folks.   Devin has played terrible this year but has had flashes of good QB play in the ND game last year and even in the loss to Ohio State.   Morris is not ready to play and should of had a redshirt year, but Hoke had a hole in his recruiting for the year prior that Shane arrived on campus.

I'm also concerned about the WR's catching his ball.   I don't know if it's the spin or power of throw but the Michigan WR's seem to have trouble catching his ball right now.   Maybe Shane hasn't been getting enough 1st team snaps in practice.

The biggest thing in Morris favor is, Michigan needs a boost on offense and usually that comes from the second team QB.    Devin seems to be "aiming" the ball when he throws and the ball lacks velocity.   I don't know if he is hurt or just trying not to make mistakes.  If Michigan goes to some type of "Denard" style offense this week, then you don't make a change.   I'm pretty sure Hoke doesn't want to go that route, but the route he is currently on is leading him to coach Ball State next year.

I have been in Gardner's camp for a long time, but it's time for a change.   Let Shane go out there and see how he does.   Expect some really bad throws and some freshman like mistakes, but then again we are pretty used to that.

Philadelphia is at San Francisco this week.  Can we make a deal that the losing coach has to coach Michigan next year?   Go Eagles!

Gardner has similar physical attributes to (and i throw up in my mouth saying this) terrelle pryor.

He doesn't look comfortable in the pocket, even when there is a pocket.. My opinion is, if he is going to be successful, it really needs to be as much with his feet as with his arm. Pass plays need to be built on short, quick developing routes and if they aren't there, he needs to run.

If DG isn't comfortable by now, chances are he isn't going to get there in the next 8 games either. Maybe it's Shane's turn.

just my opinion.

This is an article from one of Michigan's most hated enemies and it's very interesting reading. You may have already seen it. It's from SB Nation: Dave Brandon not Brady Hoke should be the first one fired at Michigan.

I believe it's written by Michael Brown (9/24/14). I hope its a good link.
