Michigan Tuesday: Wishing Jimmy A Clear Mind & A Happy Birthday

Today is Jimmy's Birthday and all signs point to a Merry Christmas for Wolverines fans.  Let's recaps what people are saying:

• Former Michigan alum Adam Schefter is saying the lack of NFL jobs might push Jimmy to Michigan.  It's pretty much a Raiders vs. Wolverines decision now.   I have always liked Schefty but the way he has covered this situation is very one sided and it's the NFL side.

• 49'ers GM confirms that Harbaugh has been contacted by U of M:  Baalke did confirm that the University of Michigan has approached the 49ers about hiring Harbaugh to fill their vacant coaching position. Multiple reports last week stated that Michigan, Harbaugh's alma mater, is offering him a six-year, $48 million deal.
  
  
  
  
  "I don't know that it's been offered to him. I don't know that it's been offered at all," Baalke said on his weekly segment on 95.7 The Game. "I haven't seen a report that the contract has been handed to him and he's mulling it over."
  
  
  
  
  
  "I think the University of Michigan, in reaching out, did handle it correctly," Baalke said. "As I look at it, guys, it's very simple: He's the head football coach of the San Francisco 49ers

• Sam Webb is now 70/30 its happening

• John U Bacon is 85/15 its happening

• The players are expected to get an update from Hackett today via conference call

• Some message board posters with a strong track records are now starting to say, Jimmy is coming for sure and it's only a matter of the signature on paper.  

• A guy I have been watching close on twitter who seems to have a relationship with Jimmy's agent reported last night there are a few minor contract details to be worked out but it's looking really good for Wolverines fans.  The target intro date might be the Illinois basketball game on 12/30.

• The TV guy who broke the details on the contract pubically is reporting "unless he changes his mind", Jimmy is going to Michigan.

So there is a bit of nervousness in the Michigan athletic department because of "what might of happened" in 2011.  There are reports starting to leak out that Jimmy had verbally accepted the Michigan job and pulled the plug in the last few hours to take the 49'ers gig. 

I am willing to bet a $1 that is a Brandon story and has very little truth to it.   If I remember correctly, Harbaugh was already in discussion with the 49'ers when Brandon took 2 days to fire RR.   I think this story was fabricated to make Brandon look better when it became obvious his hiring of Hoke was not a good decision.

• Side Note:  Pat Narduzzi is in negotiations with Pitt to become their next head coach.  Michigan rivals could lose their top two assistants with OSU's Tom Herman heading to Houston and Narduzzi going to Pitt.

• There are some internet rumors that Doug Nussmeier could be named the new OC at Florida as early as this morning.
