Michigan Tuesday: Thank Goodness Jimmy Came Home

Say what you want about Urban Meyer but the guy is a wizard when it comes to coaching and recruiting.   We saw that again on display last night with their 3rd string QB and a smart defense game plan.   What impresses me the most is how he took a young offensive line and turned them into road graters by the end of the year.   Michigan continues to struggle with that same thing and I think we are on year 3 of the line's development.

It's hard to watch you rival win a National Championship but sometimes you have to tip your hat to them and go work your ass off to compete with them next year.   I hope that is the message the Wolverines received last night.   At least we now have a head coach and staff that can compete at Urban's level.   Urban go coach the Denver Broncos.

BTW I though Oregon had a terrible game plan on both sides of the ball.  They needed to pass to set up the run and the defense looked to have two safeties deep most of the game.   Not sure it would have mattered as The Ducks got taken to coaching school last night.

  • How does the win last night effect the recruitment of Mike Weber?  Well, I'm sure it helps OSU cause but there are a couple other factors in play.   First, during the game one of the top players in the 2016 class and #1 ranked RB Kareem Walker committed to the Buckeyes.  Having Wheatley on staff is also a huge plus for the Wolverines recruiting Cass Tech and Mr. Weber.  So we will see how this one plays out over the next couple of weeks.  If they can get Mike on campus anything can happen.

Recruiting is about to heat up and should be fun for the next few weeks.   Michigan has room for 6 players right now.

The best luck you'll find is luck you've made for yourself. Douglas McCarther

no denying ohio played a hell of a game (i just threw up in my mouth a little)

Oregon couldn't have shot themselves in the foot any more than they did.... two early dropped passes and countless false starts, not to mention the complete INABILITY to finish a tackle within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage.

it's 2015 now.... and the Harbaugh era has begun.... Thank the Lord!

The Harbaugh era.

Given what has happened the last 10 years at Michigan, I am more hesitant than most in believing he is the second coming. I certainly hope he can put together a good product. He has done so both in college and in the pros.

However, I will wait and see what his teams do (including the current team ... it is his even if he didn't recruit them).

He's had real success everywhere he's coached, from non-scholarship NCAA, to Pac 10, to NFL...

If he can't turn this around, I don't think there is a guy who can.

I hear what you are saying, Scott. I think at best it will take a couple of years. If he can pull a '69 repeat I will be shocked and elated.

A buckeye win is good for the conference as a whole. If michigan can't be there then I will pull for any big 10 representative. Great to see the B1G being talked about in a positive way on national media. Go Blue!!! Go B1G.

Hey at least I'm looking forward to16 football season.
Having Harbaughs as coach should be fun, it's why I became a fan of Stanford, y #2 team.

Giving osu the benefit of the doubt of winning the games they were given to play. However... I will say this...just as sure as osu was the best of the four teams in the playoffs, I'm not sure if the best four teams in the nation were in the playoffs.
IMHO!!!

I have to agree with the Oregon defensive game plan. When Ohio State had 12, 21, or any other personnel grouping that had multiple RB and or TE combinations they were still set to defend the pass. In those moments they needed to put 8 in the box and press the line of scrimmage.

I really don't understand why they were trying to tackle Jones high...the guy is a moose.

As for their O, it was a lack of execution. Those drops early in the game really hurt their momentum. The quick 3 and outs put way too much pressure on their D.

Renegade i don't expect an 11-2 season in 2015, but I do expect to see a team that takes the field ready to play and play hard... I do expect to see players get better between the spring game and season opener, between the season opener and season finale.

It might take Jim a season or two before we're back to competing for Big 10 championships, but I'll be happy with a competent football team that improves and plays hard.... the end result will happen, we have a head coach who has proven that everywhere he's been.

GO BLUE!
