Wolverine Wednesday: More New Assistant Coaching Moves

There are some reports about a couple of new assistant coaches:

  • First is Mike Zordich who is reported to be taking a job as a DB coach at Michigan.  Mike was an NFL safety and has coached DB's for the Eagles and was currently on the staff at Youngstown State.   He played his college football at Penn State.  Sounds like a good hire but it looks like Roy Manning won't be retained now.

  • Looks like we are going to have another Harbaugh on staff.   Reports are (and he already has a U of M email) that Jay Harbaugh will join his fathers staff at Michigan.  He comes from the Ravens (Uncle John) staff and will most likely coach the TE's in Ann Arbor.

Where are we at now Bob?

OC = Drevno
Passing Game Coordinator/WR = Fisch
QB = Jim Harbaugh
 RB = Wheat
OL= Drevno
TE= Jay Harbaugh

DC = Durkin
DL/DE = Mattison
LB = Durkin
DB = Greg Jackson
DB/S = Zordich
ST = Baxter

This is 9 coaches now and the staff looks complete.   It looks like Jimmie Dougherty from SJS is not coming and probably puts and end to the Dougherty/Big Al Borges trade.  This staff is full with NFL coaches, which should be a huge selling point to recruits.

  • Michigan has offered 2015 3 star CB/athlete from Florida Chris Williamson.  Might visit on the 23rd.

  • Michigan has also offered 2015 3 star DE and Nebraska commit Rueben Jones who is considered a soft commit right now.  He is visiting Louisville this weekend and maybe A2 later in the month.  He is 6'4 and 225 so he is a good prospect that needs some time to add weight and strength before he plays.

  • Michigan BBall got blown out in Columbus last night.
2 more days of the dead period (phone calls only) before the coaches can hit the road and players can visit A2.   6 spots and 3 visit weekends left.

Again, thanks for all the info... very helpful would take a lot of work to try to figure out news myself (if not > impossible). This web site is kinda no 2. in popularity , but I like it better because its straight forward without a lot of clutter.
the final part of this three part process(first Harbaugh, then assistants) is the recruiting... like the grand finale in a fireworks show.

Credibility of new TE coach?? How will potential TE's view new coach with only 'statistical' experience?? Will they go where they can receive 'real' experience? Just wondering. Bob/AZ

Good point Bob, I would imagine the credentials of the rest of the staff probably make this much of a non-issue though.

I'm guessing an NFL OC and Jim Harbaugh being on staff, will likely overshadow any concerns over Jim's son's lack of experience coaching TE's.

GO BLUE!!

Will Chris Clark think that?

My guess is Dad will give son a lot of help if he needs it, the TE coach is a very focused role with not a ton of pressure.

Jim did the right thing trying to get the a top TE guy that can recruit, that fell through, so I don't blame him at all for hiring his son.

Don't forget there are two OC's on staff/passing game coordinator that will probably help Jay if he needs it as well.

if clark doesn't see it a good fit, we might be able to land a TE named Wheatley.
