NSD Michigan Morning ReCap

Updates:

  • TJ Wheatley Goes Blue!! Bang Bang!!
  • Another NSD surprise FL DE Sheldon Johnson picks Michigan!!
  • Michigan has 12 14 commits in this class

  • "Moving" Van Jefferson stays with Ole Miss.
  • Iman Marshall USC
  • Smith to UCLA (hasn't signed yet)
  • Jarius Adams to Rutgers
  • R. Smith had a Michigan University sign on his table

Well, that was a different morning.

We had surprise commitments from two players Karan Higdon and Keith Washington but Michigan struck out on it's two coin flip Headliners in Chris Clark and Mike Weber.   It seems Weber was all but a lock to Michigan before he changed his mind late last night or this morning when Higdon committed.   Weber has now been quoted as saying it was the Higdon commitment that drove him to Ohio State.   I guess he didn't look at Michigan's roster full of 5 star RB's with the names of Green and Isaac.  Not to mention the 4 star Smith.

Both are losses for Wolverine fans as they both were commitments at one point before the program started to implode this fall.

All the commitments signed in their LOI's and the only one still pending is new commitment Higdon.

Anything left on the board?
  • Van Jefferson at any moment but insiders say he has moved from Michigan.
  • Roquan Smith as well but this has become a hail mary at this point.  Picks UCLA
  • Sheldon Johnson at 2:45
  • Iman Marshall at 4:00 is another Hail Mary
Biggest get would be Ty Wheatly at 3:15.  He is picking between Michigan and UCLA and UCLA is really having a good day.

Overall Grade: C-

I think, in all fairness, we need to give Jim and current staff a Pass/Fail grade on this effort. J.H. is 30 days into this job following a program implosion that was national newsworthy in some repsects. The class has been stabalized and he is adding in a few pieces here and there. We may still get lucky with a blue chip before this day is over. But even if not, I have to give Jim an unequivocal PASS.

Who in the heck is Keith Washigton and where did he flip from?

I agree, with a month to make up a recruiting class, I think he did very well.

I imagine we'll get Wheatley, if we get another of the targets left, that's icing.

I know I've said it a dozen times, but
Mike Hart was a 3 star recruit
Jordan Kovacs was not rated and walked on

I wouldn't let the star ratings over shadow too much.

JJ Watts, he's a pretty decent NFL player, he was a first round pick, he was a 2* recruit out of high school!

Uncle Ron, he is a QB/CB from Alabama. He never visited A2 and committed today. He was a Cal commit. Jimmy talked about how he loves his toughness. He seems like a good athlete and will play CB here.

C- at best.

Can't believe that we couldn't land even ONE of the Big Fish.

I'm a guy that likes to see the cup half full, but I'm a bit disappointed.

Let me also say that I have the utmost confidence in this staff to both develop players and also recruit in the future. I just thought we'd get 1 BIG splash today. Then again, if we get Marshall, I'll be doing an about face on this post......

There are reports that Roquan Smith, even though he announced his commitment to Ucla, has also stated he isn't ready to sign and LOI yet, he's still thinking some things thru.

I don't know if the news on the DC leaving is playing a roll, but crazier things have happened.

I'm pleased with what we got. We still might get a another "big fish"... a lot of unexpected > but far from a "lack luster signing day" described by a Detroit free press writer (maybe his future career will be in the food services industry, or Merry Maids). As Scott K. said it was tough on Harbaugh, he shined, and next year he will kick booty like never before.
We also have to remember, the bulk of these new signs are stolen goods, taken from other programs

Strong Finish!!

This was a great haul today; especially considering the state Home left us in...besides, it will take years to develop these youngsters! Go Blue!!!
