Michigan Monday: Commit Weekend (+1 Today) In Review

It wasn't the snowball effect like most of us hoped but getting two football and one basketball recruit  is still a pretty good weekend.   The commitments started on Friday night when 4 star QB Brandon Peters committed.

Brandon is ranked 4 star by all services and is the the number 157 player in the nation to 24/7, #181 to ESPN and #211 to Rivals.   He is 6'4 and 200 pounds and a pro style QB that has some athleticism.  He is also plays basketball for his high school in Indiana.  His top offers included the likes of LSU, Va Tech, Wisconsin, Arkansas, BC, Iowa, and Nebraska.

With the log jam at QB, I expect this is probably the only QB in the class.  Of course, Jimmy probably would like 3 more.  Which would also lead him to a year 1 redshirt.

Very good pick up and he fits the Harbaugh QB frame.

The next player to drop this weekend was 3 star LB David Reese from Farmington HS.   David plays LB in HS but is probably going to be a full back prospect at Michigan.   He was a Louisville commit before flipping to the Wolverines on Saturday.  David is also a current teammate of Michigan WR recruit Desmond Fitzpatrick who has been to Ann Arbor 7 times since Michigan started recruiting him (Desmond is also a Louisville commit).

Reese seems like a tackling machine on defense and one of those guys that doesn't jump off the page  at near 6 feet and 230 pounds but has a "nose" for the ball.  He recorded 117 tackles as a junior and 108 as a sophomore.   Jimmy likes players that can play multiple positions and having a guy that can play defense as a LB and FB on offense is a great fit in Ann Arbor.

David's offer list included the likes of Pitt, Louisville, UC, Indiana and the MAC schools.

See his highlights here.

The third commit came to the basketball program this weekend in 2015 International Big Man, Moritz Wagner.  Mo is from Germany and decided to play in Ann Arbor then professional basketball in his home country.   Since he is from overseas he doesn't come to Ann Arbor with any star rankings.   He is 6'9 - 6'10 and 210 pounds power forward.   Rivals believes if he was in the US he would be a top 20-40 recruit in the nation.

UMHoops says he averaged 17 points, 5 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals a game in the German Youth League.   Mo is the only recruit in the 2015 class as the Wolverines wait for Scout's #1 player in Jaylen Brown.   Right now Michigan is full but that could change with LeVert heading for the NBA or other scholarship management.

So the commit train keep rolling as Michigan landed another one this morning.

Breaking News:  3 Star RB Kingston Davis from Alabama has committed to Michigan.    His offers included the likes of Louisville, Miss State and Mississippi.  He is rated 3 stars across the board.  Kingston is 6'1 225 pounds, ran for 1400 yards last year and had 14 touchdowns.    Looks like another big back and a recruiting win in Alabama.
