Michigan Monday: News and Notes From The Weekend

Remember on Friday morning when I said that Pembroke Pines (FL) Flanagan S Devin Gil was going to have a big day?  Well, he wasn't going to Chuck E Cheese and did commit to the Wolverines.

Gil is the 17th commitment in the 2016 class and 2nd at safety from Pembroke Pines.  Michigan hopes to add one more player from that school, highly ranked 4 star LB Devin Bush Jr..  Devin Bush, also tweeted out that he would not be announcing his college of choice at the UA game, which hopefully is a good sign for the Wolverines for him to join his teammates in Ann Arbor.

Gil is a 3 star safety across all the services and will come into Michigan around 6'2 and 210 pounds.  That means he could end up at LB as well.  Gil has a nice offer list and was recently commit to Miami before picking the Wolverines.  His other offers included the likes of:  NC State, Colorado,  Louisville, UCF, South Florida and Marshall.

The book on Gil is he likes contact and has a nose for the ball.  Areas he can improve is in man to man coverage and change of direction.

Michigan continues to the commitment train and from guys that they have seen preform for their own eyes.  With the class now getting close to full, lets see how the next commitments fall.

  • Good News for Football, bad for Basketball: Michigan lost their top rated 5 star recruit from the 2016 class when Tyus Battle de-committed on Friday and took a trip to Syracuse this weekend.

  • One of the best players in the state, 4 star DE Khalid Kareem is planning to make his announcement on Wednesday.  If your remember, Khalid was committed to MSU for about 5 minutes back in December or January.

  • Michigan commit Brandon Peters who seems to be everywhere was the top QB at this weekend's Ann Arbor Arial Assault camp.   Or A4 for those keeping score at home.

  • There continues to be some "buzz" that Instate LB David Reese might flip back to Louisville.  Reports are that he visited there again this weekend.

  • For you golf fans, that was some US Open in primetime last night.   Dustin Johnson goes from having a 12 footer for Eagle and the win to missing a 5 footer for a playoff and a loss.   I knew when he had that comebacker it was going to be trouble as he is ranked in the 150's in 6 foot putts on the Tour.  Golf can be a very cruel game sometimes.
