Wolverine Wednesday: Mid-Week News and Notes

  • Amara Darboh got released by Seattle, signed by the Patriots, and then released again.  It seems he had an injury that needed surgery.

  •  Kareem Walker had 108 yards and a TD for Fort Scott CC.

  • Josh Ross on what happened in the first half:  “I just feel like we — first half — we was a little bit too jittery. I feel like second half, we was a little bit more poised, we was in the crowd, we know how the game was going. We just sat down and we played. We balled out.”

  • Brad Hawkins on the long TD pass:  “I just — I seen the ball in the air. Thought it was mine, I didn’t come down with it. But, I mean, it happens. Moved on to the next play. And I just continue to play the way that I know I’m capable of playing.”

  • Oliver Martin on his positions after the Black injury:  “I had to play a little bit more of the X position, where traditionally I played a little bit more Z and F. So, I just have to be ready to play any of the three positions. And then that goes the same for the other receivers, too. You have to be able to play all of the positions.”

I still believe there is zero upside to play a big game to start a season.   There isn't a college pre-season and you never know what your football team will look like until you play a game.  Jimmy has been on every show this week discussing improvements needed.   It would have been much better to have seen those improvements against a MAC team in week 1, then travel to ND this week (both ND and Michigan play MAC schools this week).   I just wonder when the Michigan Athletic department will start being smarter about the schedule.

It's easy to point to areas that needs improvements, like the tackles, managing the clock, etc.   If the Michigan defense doesn't struggle in the first half, its a much different game.   It was first game jitters, that can be overcome in week 2.  Many coaches believe the biggest improvement you will see from your team is from Week 1 to Week 2.

STOP making excuses Bob....it doesn't matter who we played....we should have won the game just like ND did....we will never be a Big Ten champion as long as we have Mr. Conservative...his offense is so elementary and boring....even a high school team can stop our offense....two run up the middle and maybe pass on 3rd down...lol....stupid

Bob's right, Abu. Trite sayings to counter him don't mean much at all.

As a M fan I am forced to start wondering if its possible for M to get back to football prominence. It seems we have tried almost everything. We tried fo embrace the new with RR...fail. We tried the low budget M-man with Hoke....Fail. So M does the only thing it can and gets a high priced known commodity it Harbaugh...It seems like M is trending in the same downward direction, so what now? Is there a reason other than coaching that can lead to 10+ years of demanding excellence and getting mediocrity? How can 3 different coaches end up average or below? What's the missing piece to the Michigan puzzle? Money, accommodations, recruiting, player development? What is the X factor that a spread offense coach, A defensive line coach & A leading NFL coach all lacked that will lead to road wins and wins vs ranked schools? I'm intrested to feedback?

*in feedback. Apologies for typos.

This has been said by many others, Michigan's offensive fortunes are depended on 5 men. While it is "important" to have a good QB, a good to a great offensive line can make an average QB look good. The fact is, Michigan has whiffed on several OT candidates in the last three years. They were also "hurt" by Grant Newsome's injury. If you want to get some very good OT's, win.

Goose, when we had RR...we had some what of a good offense but our defense was pure stinker like your shit...he ran 4 3 defense....Hoke had a good defense no offense...Garbgebuh has good defense but no offense

There are many plays that can be run with OTs that aren't that good:
FB dive
TB/QB draw
Screen Pass/Pass in the flat
Shovel pass
Fade pattern
Quick QB to TB pitch/lateral pass with the help of a TE on that side
Bootleg play action to that side
Even a the option would work.

Whenever there is an opponent's strength (to our weakness), there is a counter play to make up for that weakness.

Stop the sky is falling crap. WMU gave up 500+ yards to an anemic Syracuse team in Kalamazoo. Our Offense will shine Saturday.
We'll get there.

Yeah our offense will shine against a division 3 team

In Jim I trust! He isn't going anywhere so you either support Michigan football or hop off. Go blue!

Abu.....you make assertions that are simply untenable.

Western Michigan is a Division IA football program in the MAC. They almost beat Syracuse last week and they played in the Cotton Bowl in their 2017 season - almost beating Wisconsin. In the past few years they have beaten Oklahoma State, Illinois, and Northwestern.....all on the road.

What anti-Michigan UFO planet do you live on?

For Fucks Sake guys.....
Two seasons ago we were three plays from being undefeated. Last year we lost our QB in game 4 and had to play with #2 and #3 for the rest of the year...

We lost ONE game to a team that is better than us, the season will get better.

I am live and breath Michigan...but, you have to have some common sense....when the team is not playing well you have tocall them out...just that simple....protecting Garbgebuh is not going to help...

Abu which coach can we get that can come in and win right away and do it the right way?

Honestly we need a young coach I like Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma.... Urban Meyer and Nick Saban are old but they think outside the box they take chances we have such a good defense all of that is going to waste because we give up too many offensive possession just imagine we had a good offense we could be winning national championships left and right
