Michigan Thursday: 14 Teams Now?

Michigan will be the final National Champion of the 4 team playoff.    Next year kicks off the 12 team playoff system with Michigan AD Warde Manuel at the helm of the Playoff Committee.  Which probably explains the report that the playoff committee is now looking to grow to 14 teams with 3 automatic qualifiers from the Big Ten and SEC.

I know it's good to have future conversations but let's see how 12 teams goes before we move to 14 and this becomes the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

  • Famous comedian and OSU grad Richard Lewis passed away yesterday.  He is currently on this season's Curb which I assume will be his final piece of work.  I always have respect for folks that make people laugh with just a microphone.  RIP.
  • Mike Barrett on JJ at the NFL Combine: “He's the kind of player, that Patrick Mahomes type, where he can make a play at any moment. You can't sleep on him when you think he's down. He'll throw a ball outta his butt, for real.”
  • Stephen Ross was named the top owner by the NFL Players in a NFPA survey. He is also looking to sell a percentage of the Dolphins to clearly fund a Michigan NIL Collective! 😄 The back-to-back Super Bowl Champs got some seriously low grades (outside of head coach which got an A+).  Ownership for the Chiefs got a grade of F-.

A great deal of presently unknown happenings in college football will be unraveling rather rapidly from here to over the course of the year.

Some questions being- With FSU likely leaving the ACC, what other teams in the ACC will follow them into either the BIG Ten or SEC?

With the new 12 team playoff (soon to be expanded to 14) favoring the Big Ten & SEC with auto-bids, where independents receive zero, does this motivate Notre Dame into joining the Big Ten?

With a federal judge last week granting an injunction in barring the NCAA from enforcing its rules in prohibiting NIL during the recruiting process or while they are in the transfer portal, stating it likely violates federal antitrust laws (it does), how does this effect UM (Warde's) current stance on NIL going forward?

How much longer can the NCAA "Clown Show" continue? It's now clear that what needs to be done in cleaning-up what is currently a mess in college football, can not be resolved by the incompetence of the NCAA.

This from ESPN yesterday: Presidents and chancellors in both the SEC and Big Ten are having conversations about whether to continue their NCAA membership. It's a move that would impact and could possibly derail the TV agreement.

Those conversations are happening, the source said, adding some feel "very strongly about pulling away."

I liked Lewis, didn’t know about the $uckeye connection so he goes down a peg. Thems the rules.
