Those are expensive Cupcakes as OSU pays Navy $1.4M

The BCS bowl system has created the pre-conference cupcake schedule. Big time schools are bringing in very beat-able opponents in late August and early September to increase their records to look better to the Bowl committees. If you have noticed the MAC and the Big Ten have pretty much the equivalent to the NCAA Basketball Big Ten/ACC Match up. But in this case the MAC plays for a payday and The Big Ten gets their much needed wins.

Well, these cupcakes have caught on and are now getting paid. The Ohio State University is paying $1.4 Million to Navy for a trip to "the Shoe" next year. Yes, that's right $1.4M. I assume you can't write that off your taxes? (Maybe they will name a aircraft carrier after OSU: The SS Vest, The SS Pryor, The SS C-BUS, The SS tOSU, or UOS) Many programs are asking for over $800,000+ to travel to other Big Time Programs stadiums when the payout were in the $300,000 - $400,000 range less then 5 years ago.

These amounts are close to or over Bowl Payouts. Now some opponents are pulling out of contracts, so they can get "paid" at other schools. That is why OSU is paying Navy $1.4M. A team pulled out on them and they needed a replacement and are paying Navy through the nose so they can change their own schedule.

Is this a good practice? Is this what college football is all about? Probably not, but how can you blame these smaller programs by scheduling a Michigan or OSU and getting paid so their Softball Team can have new uniforms and they can pay their assistant swimming coach a salary? You can't. The lesson: If you going to schedule a Cup Cake you better be prepared to pay for Kobe Beef! (BTW: If you going to schedule a cupcake, also make sure they are a cupcake and don't come in and upset you on opening day)

Also there is no word on how much Ohio State is willing to pay The University of Cincinnati to start their brand new instate rivalry.
