Michigan Tuesday: So How Do You Follow That?

One of the first things that comes to my mind after a weekend like that is:  What's next for this recruiting class?

The top priority now for the 2013 class seems to be at WR with the top two prospect being; Laquon Treadwell and Jaron Dukes.  Jaron lives in Columbus and Laquon is teammates with former commit Anthony Standifer who hasn't signed anywhere and still taking visits.   Michigan has a 5 star QB already locked up in Shane Morris and getting a couple elite WR's shouldn't be problem.

Michigan would also like a big tailback and the top prospect continues to be Ty Isaac but there are other offers going out as well.  With Wyatt Shallman projected as a full back or huge tailback, Michigan would still like another "elite" TB in this class.

Are there any more spots on the OL left?  Yes, there should be at least one left.  Recruits have been told they are taking 5 OL in this class.  They now have 4.  The top target is Ethan Pocic who is considered a borderline 5 star player.

What is the deal with all the recruits from Illinois?  Kyle Bosch, LTT, Ty Isaac and Ethan Pocic are all from Illinois.  The University of Illinois is down and has just gone through a coaching change.  There is very little stability right now with that program, now being lead by the former Toledo head coach.   The elite prospects in-state are looking elsewhere and the Michigan coaches has done a great job recruiting most of this kids for over a year.

Any news on Alex Kozan?  Nope, there really isn't.  Michigan got a 2013 commit from Chris Fox from Colorado last weekend.  Does last weekend effect Alex's recruitment?   Yes and No.  If Alex wants to come and compete for playing time, he shouldn't be concerned with guys that won't be on campus for at least another 10-14 months.  The Michigan coaches now have a great OL class in 2013 if Alex decides to play his college football elsewhere.

What about other spots in the 2013 class?  Look for the coaches to take another elite corner, at least 1 LB, and a defensive lineman.   Targets include:  EJ Levenberry at LB, two prospects from Good Counsel in LB Dorian O’Daniel and DB Kendall Fuller (both are coming out for the Spring Game - Va Tech will be hard to beat here).  On the DL the name I am hearing the most is Henry Poggi from Baltimore.

How many spots total in this class? I'm estimating 20 at this point.  This of course could change with injuries, red shirts, transfers and NFL entries.

  •  The Michigan basketball team plays at NW tonight.  This is a team that has always given Michigan trouble.  I know the paint isn't dry from the big win on Saturday but I am telling you right now that Michigan is on upset alert tonight.  NW has never made the NCAA Tournament and they feel tonight's game is a make or break win to get in this year.   Don't sleep on the Wildcats tonight!  The game is on at 8:00 on BTN.

  • Another Long Snapper Walk On for the 2012 class:  Tyler Tokarsky from Fenton, Michigan.
