Michigan Monday: Early Look at Turtles and Another Big-Name Coach is Gone

Michigan is finally moving on to the regular Big Ten season on Saturday, when they host the Maryland Terrapins on Fox at Noon.

The more you know:
  1. US
a small edible turtle with lozenge-shaped markings on its shell, found in coastal marshes of the eastern US.
  2. a freshwater turtle, especially one of the smaller kinds of the Old World. Also called turtle.

I will take a Wolverine vs. an edible turtle any day.

Maryland is 3-0 with wins over Buffalo, Charlotte, and SMU.

They pass for 310 yards a game
Run for 189
Score 40 points per
Give up 19 per

Tua 2 has a QBR of 84.3 and thrown 6 TD's.  Michigan is favored by 17.

This Maryland team seems like every other Maryland team minus the week 1 win over Texas.

  • Herm Edwards lost his job after his team lost to Eastern Michigan.  He also had some NCAA violation issues.
  • Nebraska has now fired its DC after the blowout by Oklahoma
  • BIG10 East is 20-1 West 12-10
  • Hutch had 3 sacks in the 1st half of Lions vs. Football Team
  • Pete Thamel said that Urban was not contacted by Nebraska, will not chase any coaching openings and will stay at Fox.

I don't have a good feeling about the B1G opener. Maybe it is because collectively we've played a couple of HS teams and 1 Jr High. Even the most passionate Wolverine fan has to wonder if we really learned anything playing 3 of the worst programs in FBS. Michigan did what they were supposed to do, but its hard to be impressed by beating the snot out of CSU, Hawaii, and UConn. Other than CSU, the pass rush hasn't been dominant. Now it could by design as Minter seemed to blitz a lot more against CSU and not so much against Hawaii and UConn. And that's a concern on its own, if we have to blitz to get pressure on the QB you're playing with fire. Ask Don Brown! On the other side of the ball, the OL has been a disappointing as well. They aren't blowing people off the LoS like you expect against the weak competition. I get there's been some injuries, but Zak Zinter and Trente Jones have both had a couple of wtf moments were they completely whiffed their assignments. Brought back bad memories of Kyle Kalis and his look out blocks! All in all, Maryland shouldn't be taken lightly. If Mike Locksley can stay out of his own way, he's recruited well, at least well in terms of Maryland. They have some athletes, they just are good for at least a half dozen brain fart moments during each game. If they could eliminate that, they could put together a decent season.

Don't believe anything that involves the Cryer....he's a pathological liar. The man has no shame. If NE comes calling, he'll jump. Let's hope NE isn't that desperate. This man shouldn't even be in broadcasting much less on the sidelines.

Uncle Urbie's not going to Nebraska. Nebraska is a shell of its former self. If Urbie comes back it'll be to an SEC team. Easier to recruit in the SEC than at Nebraska. There's not much of a draw to Lincoln! Big question is: why would he leave Fox? what do they pay him and for what? what's the worst thing he as to do as an analyst? Put up with Brady Quinn, Reggie Bush, and Matt Leinart's dumb asses? Lot hard way to make a buck that's for sure!
