Michigan Monday: Opposite Weekend

I haven't watched any replays or heard any analysis of what happened on Saturday afternoon.  I went into my own submarine and only came out to watch the NFL on Sunday.   I did watch the Georgia - Ohio State game and I have to admit something.  There is no love lost for the Buckeyes around these parts, but they played a pretty strong game on Saturday night and gave Georgia all they could handle and almost snuck out of there with a win.  If they don't lose Marvin Harrison Jr., I think they win that game.

I did look at the box score of the Michigan game and the Wolverines outside of total rushing yards and 3rd down conversion seemed to win every metric.  Even the turnovers which seemed heavily favored towards TCU were 3-3.  Michigan can only blame themselves for what happened on Saturday.   I never have a problem when Michigan loses to a better team.  Last year's CFP was an example of that, Georgia was better than Michigan in pretty much every aspect.  Sure, Michigan could've had a better game plan, but the Bulldogs were better.   Michigan beat themselves on Saturday by doing things they haven't done all season.

I sure hope the new playoff format will fix this, but Michigan has no solution to playing well after taking a month off between the regular season and bowl season.   There is no better way to stop momentum than having a month off between games.

Speaking of opposites, the Michigan Basketball team blew out a decent Maryland team Sunday afternoon.  Hunter loves playing Maryland and scored 32 points.  Maybe the CMU loss woke this team up?

  • Here we go again.  NBC last night reported that the Dever Broncos have reached out to Jimmy about their open head coaches' role.   If this isn't shot down in the next 24-48 hours, it will be a huge issue for recruiting.
  • Hunter last night set a record for Double-Doubles at Michigan passing his head coach.
  • Hutch continues to impress on the NFL level.  He had his 3rd interception on Sunday.  He is the only player in NFL history to have 3 picks and over 7 sacks.  It's going to come down to him and Sauce for Rookie Defensive Player of the Year.  This may be the case where they want to give the award to both of them.
  • Tom Brady somehow took a broken Tampa Bay team to the playoffs for his 20th trip to the NFL Playoffs.  The GOAT is going to GOAT.
  • What a weird day for football.  We have Citrus, Rose, and Monday Night Football.

I do agree that losing to a better team I can handle. But the fact that we blew three chances at the goal line and JJ all of a sudden went color blind on which Jersey he was throwing to we missed our chance to put the game away and perhaps break their will. We'll all go on and live to fight another day but I do believe we lost to an inferior team.

that game triggered my Don Brown PTSD! Blitz ever play to watch the QB hit someone on the crossing route for a big play. "sources close to harbaugh" say he's leaving.....you know how many times we've heard that? Sure would like the "sources" to be disclosed cuz I don't think there really are any. Remember when Jimmy called them jive turkeys....that's what is happening again. Gotta figure we are preseason top 3 next fall.

I just hate excuses. Had a coach who told us excuses were for losers. Don't like to lose play better. The month off thing grinds me to no end. Did I miss where TCU played 2 games between the Big 12 championship and the semi final. Its like blaming the weather, both teams have to face the same conditions. Make plays and don't make stupid mistakes. You want to blame anyone or anything blame the coaches. Game plan sucked. TCU used the month off to game plan, Michigan used it for what?

and about Harbaugh, really tired of the annual Jim to the NFL stuff. If he had gotten an offer last year he'd of left. Nobody wanted him. From what I hear the Minnesota thing bordered on the bizarre. They had no idea he was even coming into town. That he pretty much pushed his way into an interview. Don't think things have changed that much. There's little or no interest in Jim in the NFL. But if he does leave, see ya, just shows he was more about himself and less about the program. The biggest issue that should worry Wolverine fans is not Jim leaving. Michigan football is a national brand with deep pockets and a huge alumni/fan base. Getting a top level replacement shouldn't be that hard. What should worry you is the boob we have for an AD. About the only thing Warde did right was hire Juwan and that fell in his lap. He botched the Harbaugh contract reduction that cost us any chance at a top tier DC. Jim had to go ask John if he had anyone on his staff that could fill in. Mikey McDonald seemed to work out, but he was here for 1 year. Was it a fluke? He totally botched the hockey scandal, and I'm underwhelmed with baseball hire. I know some of you could care less about baseball, but Bakich brought Michigan baseball back from the dead and Warde's hiring was uninspiring. I know many of you have RichRod PTSD, but as bad as Warde is and I think he's terrible, Bill Martin was absolutely abysmal as the AD.

You hate excuses but you site a half dozen of them in your rant. Priceless...

Szanreno? you talking to me? If you are learn to count. where did I cite (not site, a site is a location) 1 excuse. I said make plays and don't make stupid mistakes. And the blaming the coaching staff isn't excuse, it's fact. Philly special? Giving the ball to a LB lined up as a FB, a play that they never ran all season. Let me guess the overturned Roman Wilson TD was the difference in the game? How about JJ just puts 2 more yards on the ball and Wilson walks in the EZ, how about they just hand the ball to Edwards 1st and goal at the 1 ft line? How about not giving up 270 rushing yards? how about JJ doesn't stare down a receiver not once but twice for a pick 6? So many members of this fanbase are so soft!

Still more excuses...
