Both Michigan's Football and Basketball programs were looking to fill holes in their roster for different reasons.
The Football team wants to compete for championships and needed another cornerback that has some game experience. They landed a 4-year CB from its former DC Don Brown who is now the head coach at UMass. Josh Wallace comes to Michigan as one of the best remaining CB's in the portal and a guy we know likes to play man coverage. Of course, Jesse Minter will have to introduce him to what a zone is! :)
I don't expect Josh to be a star, but I do expect him to be an upgrade at the position and walk into a starting role opposite or in place of Will Johnson who is recovering from knee surgery. Josh will have a learning curve and need to get used to the speed of the Michigan WR's in practice and the Big Ten WR's he will eventually face but this is a really nice piece to add so late in the process. Hopefully, Josh can get to campus and start working out with his new teammates soon.
Juwan and the Basketball team had their own important transfer news on Wednesday, when Tennessee transfer Olivier Nkamhoua changed course and committed to Michigan. Reports earlier in the week were that Michigan was no longer in consideration. Oliver is a strong defender as a big forward at 6'9 240 and a decent scorer. He is more of finisher around the rim vs. a 3-point shooter but he will shoot a 3. With Hunter gone, Jett and Kobe off to the draft, Michigan was in dire need of a big man who can play both sides of the floor, their best option was Oliver, and it looks like they landed him. Well done Juwan on making this work (I hope admissions feels the same way!). This pick up gives Michigan hope they can make a run at a tournament bid next season.
- Seton Hall transfer Trey Jackson is officially enrolled at Michigan. Could admissions be having a good week?
- RIP to The Iron Sheik, he was a great wrestling villain in the late 80's.
