Ryan Mallett a former 5-star QB and 1 year Michigan QB died in a drowning accident outside of Destin, Florida on Tuesday. The Sherriff office said that Ryan was swimming just off a sandbar and was struggling to get back to boat, when he died. Panama City Beach has seen 7 deaths in June alone due to powerful rip currents in the Gulf. Ryan was the young age of 35 and a head coach of high school football team in Arkansas.
Ryan came to Michigan as an Elite 11 QB to be the next Tom Brady or Chad Henne. He was recruited to Michigan for 3 years by Scot Loeffler who is now the head coach of Bowling Green and Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. After his freshman season, Lloyd retired and Ryan transferred, leaving new head coach Rich Rodriquez without a QB room.
Ryan sat out his transfer year and then became a star for Arkansas throwing for over 7,000 yards and 62 TD's in two years before heading to the NFL. Ryan was drafted by the Patriots and played for the Texans and Ravens. His first ever NFL TD pass was to JJ Watt. Ryan was a teammate of Tom Brady and played for John Harbaugh in the NFL.
Rest in Peace Big Man.

R.I.P! I remember that awful time. Instead of reaching out to Ryan Mallet an assuring him that they build an offense around him (ala what they ran at Tulane when RichRod was the OC and had Shaun King as their QB), Rich decided to put all his eggs in flipping Terrell Pryor and ended up with 2 homeless guys as QBs.
I do like that statement 2 homeless guy's for quarterback ....I still blame Carr for leaving an empty cupboard though ( although my memortells mr Rich Rod could have tried harder to keep Mallet, I do not believe he tried much....if anyof you want to hear a bizarre story, read in depth how Rich Rod ruined his stay at Arizona .... I supported Rich until I heard the story ... most incredible!
Scottydoggs you have a link or name of that article on RR?
I wouldn't wish DickRod as a coach on any team, save one.
God Bless you, Mr. Mallet. His numbers at Arksanas were terrific and indicate what we could have had here at Michigan. Ryan would have fit DR's offense like a square peg in a round hole.
