Michigan Thursday: A Couple Thoughts on Juwan

I'm a huge Juwan Howard guy. I loved him as a player and very much wanted him as Michigan Head Coach when Coach B stepped down.  He had instant success on the court and on the recruiting trail.  Then he started to lose his temper and things started to go in the opposite direction.   We all know what happened with the Wisconsin coach a couple of years ago.  The latest infraction is a yelling confrontation between Juwan and S&C Coach Jon Sanderson, who has reportedly filed an HR compliant against Michigan's head coach.

To me the Sanderson thing would not be that big of deal if the Wisconsin thing hadn't happened.  The issue is Juwan's temper and not being able to act professionally in a setting where keeping your cool is very important.  He can't react like a player would on the court to a hard foul, when a hard situation comes at him as Michigan's head coach.   You think he would have learned that from Riley and Spoelstra.  I've seen Jimmy Butler want to punch Spoelstra and the Heat still made it to the NBA Finals.

To be fair, Michigan's admissions has not been too friendly to Michigan Basketball he last 2 years.  Would this year's team be a little different if they had Love and Shannon?  There is no doubt.  I also don't want to penalize him for his current heart recovery, but even with that he is in no position to be yelling at anyone.

Michigan fans are now starting to jump from Juwan's ship, and he is losing support daily.  This latest situation does not help him or Michigan's struggling basketball program.   It might be time to go in another direction as there are rumblings from Goodman that the culture right now is pretty bad.

  • Joey Slackman has decided against a Michigan visit, in favor of Auburn.
  • MSU is getting former Oregon State QB Aidan Chiles and will play for his former head coach.
  • Blake is a finalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award
  • Speaking of the Heat, Duncan had 6 triples last night
  • If there is an All-American team out there Zak Zinter is on the 1st team!

Is there news on Zinter's future recovery? Do they think he can play again?

Thought you mentioned Slackman was a slam dunk ?

Goblue- I read Zinter will attend the NFL combine. Not sure if he will do any running or agility tests. Prob just strength. I wonder how bad the break in his leg was? Not good when TV won't air it.

I'm not that disappointed in Slackman not coming here. Did you see the competition he played against? Ivy league football is ranked below the Big Sky and Sunbelt Conference. It's not good. I could probably suit up and play a few downs there before someone noticed something was up. Lol

Bob is right on the money with Juwan still having that players mentality. J Dog needs to play the role of the adult in the room.

Funny, I think back to all the teams I played on growing up and all my coaches were screaming maniacs. Lol

Goblu- Don't know if you follow hockey or not, but there's a guy that used to play for the Red Wings named Dino Ciccarelli. He used to stand in front of the other team's goal so often that opponents would chop and slash his legs like an oak tree. Dino's legs got so beat up he had to have a steal bar inserted into one of his shins. It made going through airports impossible. So if he can do it, I guess Zac still has a fighter's chance as well.

Dino owns Club 22 on Hayes and 21 1/2 Mile in Shelby Twp. if anyone wants to go to a cool sports bar. He's up there quite regularly, too if you'd like to meet him.
