Michigan Monday: Recruits Come in Pairs: Poggi is Blue

It's offical, 4 star DT Henry Poggi is a Wolverine.  Sam Webb just broke the worst kept secret this weekend on the radio a few minutes ago.   Henry is rated the #2 DT and #52 player overall to Rivals.  He is 6'4 and 260 pounds and had offers from pretty much everyone:  Florida, Alabama, OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, Auburn, Penn State and others.

Michigan was very high on Henry and he made a secret visit to Ann Arbor a few week ago with his dad to check out Michigan for the final time.  Henry is so athletic some schools (like Bama) were recruiting him at TE.

Henry is a 4 star across the board to Rivals, 24/7, ESPN and Scouts and fills a big need for the Wolverines.   DT was really the only position Michigan needed to fill in this class and got two big pieces this weekend in Poggi and Hurst.   At 260 pounds I am sure the Wolverines will want to add a few pound to Henry's 6'4 frame and probably a red shirt year.    He is a coaches son, so his football "smarts" might accelerate his playing time.

The first big news this past weekend was the second worst kept secret with the commitment of Maurice Hurst, Jr. who is the son of former New England Patriot DB Maurice Hurst and cousin of all pro running back Marshall Faulk.  Maurice plays RB and DT in high school which shows he is a very good athlete.  Michigan of course is bringing him in as a DT.

The services are a bit split on Maurice, Scouts and 24/7 have him has a 4 star and Rivals and ESPN as a 3 star prospect.  He has a nice list of offers which included:  OSU, Virgina, Nebraska, MSU, Maryland, Duke, NC, NC State, Vandy, BC and others.  A number of Wolverines commits to the 2013 class came down to Ann Arbor to recruit him and he replied with a commitment after being in East Lansing the day before.

The coaches have told Maurice that he could play the 3-tech DT position or nose tackle depending on needs and situations.  I would guess the plan to be to red shirt him and have him play behind Ondre Pipkins.   I could see Maurice playing behind "Pewee" as soon as he hit campus.

What now for the Wolverines?

Michigan just secured commitments number 19 and 20.   This is the third DL commit (Taco) for the 2013 class and Michigan is probably done at the Dline for now.   I could see them consider a high profile guy like Joe Mathis.

With 4 spots left in this class, Michigan is looking for one more RB and one more WR.  The rest of spots are open for top guys at DB or another position.   Here are the names that are on the top of the Wolverines board:  IL WR Laquon Treadwell, MD CB Kendall Fuller, FL CB Leon McQuay III, VA RB Derrick Green and TN RB Jordan Wilkins.
