Michigan Monday: LaVall Stays

The Michigan Basketball program dodged a bullet this past weekend as Butler picked a current assistant as their head coach and not current Michigan assistant LaVall Jordan.   This will keep Michigan's current staff intact and hopefully all the recruiting LaVall has been doing for the Wolverines.

  • Trey Burke signed with the Jazz on Sunday and played in his first summer League game.  Trey struggled from the field shooting 1-12 with 8 points, 7 boards and 6 assists.   "Obviously my shot was not there today, but I feel I'm getting comfortable in the offense"  He will get better has he plays a few games and gets used to the speed and length of the NBA.

  • A WR that Michigan was recruiting, KJ Williams picked Syracuse this weekend.   I expect Michigan is now done at that spot for the 2014 class.   It seems Michigan was no longer an option to KJ and Artavis (even though both were expected to go to Syracuse and Clemson).

  • Taylor Lewan and Devin Gardner are both on the Maxwell watch list for the best player in college football.

  • OSU head coach Jim Tressel was considered a "Senator" until everyone found out he was dirty.  Then OSU goes out and hires one of the best coaches in the country and maybe he was just as good as Tressel in cover ups?  The NYT thinks so.  What's funny is Urban Meyer can't understand why he is getting blamed for the 31 arrests Florida Gator football players got while he was head coach.   The problem is, many of these crimes went un-punished or were pleaded down.   The best line in the entire article was from one of his former players, that was trying to give his former coach a compliment:  Jenkins, the cornerback, eventually left Florida for North Alabama after Meyer’s successor, Will Muschamp, dismissed him from the team after marijuana arrests. Several months later, Jenkins spoke to The Orlando Sentinel about his dismissal.  “If Coach Meyer were still coaching, I’d still be playing for the Gators,” he was quoted as saying. “Coach Meyer knows what it takes to win.”  So did Tressel.
