Michigan Friday: First Day of Hitting

If you ask coaches the favorite thing about their job, they will answer; being out at practice and working with their teams to get better.  They would do it for 100 hours a week if they could.   Sure running out of the tunnel against ND or OSU is special but the reason they are coaches are not for the game day experience it's for the teaching and mentoring of young men.   Today has to be one of the best days of the year for the Michigan coaching staff.   It's the day they see what they got in full pads.

All we have heard this week was, we will know (if he can contribute, if he is at the right weight, if he is going to play as a freshman, or has improved over the summer) once we start hitting or in full pads.  Today is that day!   Let's hope there are a lot of positive surprises and no injuries.

  • 2 a days start on Saturday

  • Allen Gant's move to SAM LB is official.  It seems Beyer, Cam Gordon and Grant are all competing at that position.

  • Brady Hoke said that Brennen Beyer and Derrick Green have boo boos.  He expects both to be back by Saturday.  Doesn't sound serious but then again Brady doesn't have to give the media 100% correct information on injuries.

  • 2014 LB Jared Wangler took a visit to practice yesterday and is expected to have a decision this weekend.

  • Denard makes his NFL Pre-Season debut tonight.   I hope he does well and holds on to the ball.

Can't wait to see this defense this year. Hopefully they jell together and play awesome mattison ball.

That's Gant, not Grant.

a Jacksonville paper had a little about Denard after last his first preseason game. He lined up primarily at RB and had a few carries. The writer and head coach were both impressed with his elusivenss and the fact that he carried the ball "high and tight". He had one carry that should have been a loss, but made a couple would be tacklers miss and turned it into a 7 yard gain. Denard, with his patented smile was quoted as saying, "it was fun, showing what i can do, i can't wait to get more chances".
