A Gardners Tools

You can question Devin Gardner's decision making, confidence, QB fundamentals and instincts but you can't question his toughness.  He limped to a near upset of Ohio State last year with a broken foot and tonight he willed his team to a much needed win with what seems to be a sprained ankle.

Tonight's game wasn't pretty but it was a win that this program sorely needed.  Michigan looked like a football team tonight and had a nice effort in all 3 phases of the game.  Michigan even finally got a call with the questionable off sides penalty on the onside kick.

This win didn't fix anything but at least it leaves a good taste in Michigan fans mouth as we go two weeks before the trip to East Lansing.

Cheers

  • Gardner's heart
  • Matt Wile field goals
  • Michigan's entire defensive effort
  • Frank Clark was causing problems all day
  • Gardner to Norfleet pass was the play of the game
  • Even the PSU TD throw was great coverage by The Count
Jeers
  • Michigan has to have a scholarship QB that can throw the ball down field if Devin goes out.
  • There is no way Shane "has been cleared" to play with a high ankle sprain - that takes about a month to heal.
  • Michigan's injury list seems to be much larger then we know.
  • Two really bad play calls include:  The Devin sneak where he got injured, that was way too far for a QB sneak.   The Bellomy WR screen throw was one of the most obvious play calls I have ever seen, Michigan was very lucky to not have that returned for a TD.   Coach Nuss needs to own those two calls.

All in all in was a nice primetime win for the Wolverines.  Again, this doesn't fix anything long term but it was nice to see a full stadium and Michigan play like a competent football team for a change.

Let's give Devin Gardner his night, he willed this team to a W.  He deserves it and so does the other players.

I agree 100%...The win was nice and to stop the 3 game losing streak was needed..btw was the D that good or is the whole world wrong about Hackenburg...He might be the most overrated qb I've seen in a while...But Frank Clark and Funch last night clearly cemented 1st round ability...Like u said a win is a win..but this is going to be the season....scoring 10-14 points a game and having to play shut out ball....we will see in 2 weeks at East Lansing

Glad to see the losing streak stops for now but by no means this will stop the bleeding. We've seen this scenario many times in the past and I would label it "Desperate Win". Gardner is a tough kid but unfortunately still lacks the tools and good decision making. Running game non existing. Just curious about the offside call against psu on the onside kick!!! Good thing Big Blue has a bye next week to get healthy before heading to Sparty land.

I don't think they looked like a competent team. We have really lowered the bar. We can't block. It is a persistent problem for over a year now. Penn State is not very good. I am numb when we lose and numb when we win.

I've said it numerous times here, if the OLine gets fixed, then this entire team will look 100x better.

Funny note about the injury situation. We've been playing without key players or key players at 70% of their health all year long. This team has been VERY snake-bitten.

Lastly, I'm sick of everyone giving Countess a pass. he's been beaten to the inside over and over and over again. Watch the ND tape. Happened like 5x's. Look at 2 of the Rutgers TD's. Guess who was beaten to the inside? Last night, same story.....

two really bad teams played to a near tie. we were slightly better than a really bad psu team. it will be a blood bath in east lansing. if we're lucky we'll win two more games this year.... on the bright side, we won't be embarrassed in a Dec. bowl game.

I was at the game and it was fun to watch, but all of this talk of how great the crowd was and what great support they gave the team is nonsense. Three adults in our section began booing as the team walked off the field at halftime. When called out they claimed they were booing the coaches. You CANNOT boo just the coaches. You boo the team or not at all. This concept of selective booing is complete crap. I think it is indicative of those who boo the team that they were out of shape, obviously never having played a down of football, never having coached a kid at the game, hence not knowing a single thing about what it takes to be one of those on the field. They even booed the QB Sneak where Devin got hurt, hence they were booing as our hurt captain lay on the turf. Michigan attracts the worst fans in college football. There is no argument about that. There was a guy who was next to us who shouted "boo that!" every time Michigan made a decent play. It shut up those cowards and they eventually stopped booing. It was pathetic how they cheered some of the plays at the end of the game that went in Michigan's favor and high fived and sang the Victors; not comprehending their disingenuous support. As the "boo that" guy walked away after the win, the moment he was out of earshot, one particular rube called him a mo-fo, and taunted him with violence, only after knowing that there would be no consequence. The point of this telling is that we have issues with the AD, and issues on the sideline, and issues on the field, but the biggest problem Michigan Football has is in the grandstand. I would rather see 60,000 people pulling for UM 100%, then see the asshats who stub hub their way into our tradition filling the stadium. Booing kids is the current legacy of Michigan football, and as sad as that is, its just the fact. I wonder how many recruits we lose because of these asses. Would you let your son come to a school where he is going to get booed? There is a correlation between the boos at Michigan Stadium and the rise of MSU and the revival of ND. Just sayin.

I'll keep my comment much shorter than Boeraalums... On the complete opposite contrary, that was the best experience I've ever had at the big house. I've been to around 30 games (I'm only 27), and have missed the previous UTL games. My section and people close to me were great and there was a ton of POSITIVE energy.
