Wolverine Wednesday: A Week Away From NSD

Let's quickly touch on Michigan's Basketball win over Nebraska last night.  Derrick Walton was not available and the Wolverines pulled out a nice win with a ton of freshman playing.    It's going to be a tough road for the Wolverines as the Big Ten schedule gets tougher but it's fun seeing this team play the under dog role.   I really like Dawkins and think he is going to be a great shooter in a year or two.

Recruiting News

  • 2016 QB commit Messiah deWeaver met with Harbaugh yesterday and decided to open up his recruitment.   Plenty of time to recruit one or two more QB's next year.

  • Roquan Smith is still in play but might be leaning towards Georgia right now.

  • Auden Tate WR is committed to FSU but there is a little hope that he might make it back to Ann Arbor this weekend.   It would have to be an un-official since he already used his official to Michigan already.   If he makes it back on his own dime, it could be a good sign.  If he doesn't, it probably won't be.

  • Damon Arnette is planning to take one more visit this weekend to Columbus and is still planning to announce around signing day.

  • Jimmy in home or school with Chris Clark today.  NSD announcement ESPN.

  • Wheat Jr. is on campus for an official visit.  He is now getting a full recruitment from Dad and the other coaches.   Jr. will make his own decision on where he wants to go to school but of course Dad wants him to be in Ann Arbor.  I believe they are recruiting him as a DE right now, but Jimmy has been telling dual position players they can pick after they get on campus.

  • Chris Williamson is announcing on Fox Sports next Monday.  His list is Michigan, CAL, UNC and Florida.

  • The only visitor I have heard coming in this weekend is Rutgers commit Jarius Adams.  (Michigan really needs Mike Weber on campus this week/weekend to drink the kool-aide)

  • Michigan has offered 3 star Athlete and Wisconsin commit Titus Booker.  He might make it to campus this weekend.

The recruiting process pretty much shuts down on Sunday.  2/1 is a quiet period meaning coaches can make one call on Sunday and then starting Monday it's a dead period.  During the dead period, recruits can only call coaches.

Some folks probably find the finale of recruiting season as fun, or exciting... it's both of those plus a little stressful, because although Harbaugh is about the best with x's and O's > Jimmy also needs the Joes for his Michigan team (army), not related to the "kiss Army"

I think any first recruiting class is basically a 'take what you can get' situation.... since most of those kids have been courted by coaches for a year or more and Jim's trying to catch up in a month and a half.

Whatever he manages in this class will be a bonus. His first real recruiting class will be next year, his recruiting resume' is pretty damn exciting.
