Michigan Monday: The Miami Dolphins Sign a Big Free Agent!

Yes, it's Jordan Kovacs.   Happy to see Jordan sign for another year.  He played in 8 games for the Dolphins last year after he was re-claimed from the Eagles practice squad.

I wonder if the Dolphins will look to sign any other big time free agents? :-)

  • Congratulations to Max Bielfeldt and his teammates for senior day win over Rutgers on Saturday.   This has been a tough year for the Wolverines finishing at 15-15.   Max had an injury plagued career but it was nice to see him finish with a double - double in his last game at Crisler (I guess they could play a home NIT game?).    31 points from Dawkins? I had a feeling about that guy!

  • Speaking of Michigan Basketball, I ran across this stat that surprised me over the weekendOver the past eight years, Michigan has lost seven early-entry players to the NBA draft -- more than any other Big Ten school. Ohio State is the next closest in that span with six early departures, followed by Indiana (four), Illinois (two) and Michigan State (one). League champion Wisconsin hasn't lost a single player early since 2007-08.    Can you name all the guys that have left early for the NBA?  Manny Harris, Darius Morris, Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway, Glenn Robinson III, Nik Stauskas and Mitch McGary.   4 should have left and 4 should have stayed at least another year.   With transfers, Coach B has only had 15 seniors since he got to Michigan.   Which leads me to the question:  Is Coach B too good at his job?  Here is what I mean by that.  Michigan doesn't recruit like Duke, UNC or Kentucky and really doesn't have the one and done type of guys.   Michigan recruits solid 3 and 4 star guys that have to be developed and coach and staff do a great job of that.   Maybe too good!   Michigan seems to be the Big Ten's NBA development team but elite recruits still prefer to play at other schools.   It's an interesting problem and when you have guys un-expectedly leave for the NBA, you are going to have down years like this season where they lost 3 starters to the NBA and 2 others to injury.

  • Our Rock Star Coach is everywhere and I love it!: Started out helping a car crash victim, coached first base for the Oakland A's, hung out with the Governor of Arizona and tweeted at  rapper Big Sean.   I'm sure that was about 1/2 of the things he did this weekend!

  • Speaking of our men's basketball and football coaches:  In your lifetime, can you ever remember Michigan having respected top coaches in their profession for both basketball and football?  I sure can't remember a time.   I couldn't wait for football season to end last year and now I can't wait for it to start!

  • GR3 was picked up the 76'ers.
