Michigan starts 2024 by beating Alabama and ends the year by beating Alabama. I'm not even sure what to write about this game. There was rain, turnovers, injuries, and field goals. If Jalen Milroe wants to go to the NFL, I would not suggest sending in this tape.
To start the game is was clear that Bama didn't want to be there and Michigan was still feeling the high from the Ohio State win. Then the rain started and the game flipped on its axis. Michigan could of blown out Bama but Alabama's defense stood up and shut down Michigan's limited offense.
Michigan did discover a new star in freshman RB Jordan Marshall and found some strong play at WR from Freddie Moore. QB play was inconcent from both teams and Davis Warren went out with an injury in the 4th quarter. I love Alex Orji's drive and determination but he is not a QB and threw a really bad pick. He didn't pull the trigger on open WR's and Michigan was one dimensional when he took over.
At the end of the day, Michigan's defense stood its ground and gained about 4th down stop for the win in the red zone. The Wolverines close the year with wins over Ohio State as a 21 point dog and Alabama as a 17 point dog. Sherrone has pulled some football miracles this month and next season should be exciting.
Cheers:
- Mother nature helped Michigan early
- Wink and his pressure defense
- The offensive play calling was good early
- Z is the MVP of this team
- The offensive line played well
- Jordan Marshall had 100 yards on the ground and a future star
- Sherrone and the coaching staff getting the team ready to play
- Fred Moore, we've been waiting for that game!
- Team was physical on both sides of the ball
- Derrick Moore was unblockable, 2 sacks and 2 TFL's
- Aamir Hall played well with 9 tackles
Jeers:
- Mother nature if your a fan in the stands
- Sherrone's timeout was a bad one, he needs to have a better "feel" for the game
- Michigan could've been up 21+ points with those turnovers
- Milroe broke a ton of tackles
- That was a bad roughing the passer call late
- When Michigan's secondary was bad they were really bad with wide open Bama receivers
- A Bama TE beat a Michigan DE in coverage
- End of the 1st half was really bad
- For about 4 drives, I thought Orji knew just one play
- Orji's INT
At the end of the day, this was a nice win in a game neither team wanted to be playing in. The Michigan players got a chance to play and gave us a glimpse of the future. Michigan finished with wins over USC, MSU, OSU, and Alabama. Not a great year but we will take it from where we were 6 or so weeks ago.
Bryce Time!

Quite a few of us (including me), thought the sky was falling and things were only to get worse next year. But as Bob pointed out we beat USC (nemesis for decades AKA: Rose Bowl adversary, MSU, OSU, and Alabama too! {{{Who would have thunk it))), if you did I want you to buy my lottery tickets for me. There is something special going on at Michigan. What is it?? I think it has to do with Sherrone. Sherrone at a basketball game.
pretending to plant the "m" flag shows he knows how to motivate. I severely picked on our AD but I believe he is the force behind our change of heart, by adopting new policies with NIL, and Portal. Good luck to everyone for 2025 (even Bucknuts boy!) and write comments because I like to read them (chowman and Brady2017 and others. You too Bob
Warren is a "machine" He beat cancer then Ohio State and Alabama (back to back). A man's man. He created memories that no one can ever take from him. CONGRATS AND THANX!
"The offensive play calling was good early"...dont know what game you were watching.
The offense was atrocious other than Marshall. Jadyn Davis must be horrible if the alternative is Orji. That kid is crazy not to transfer after being behind Orji. (And Warren)
I hope Michigan's offense will never look that bad again. Looked like they brought back Kirk Campbell for one last go. Who ever was calling the plays should be given his walking papers.
Michigan's last offensive series,,, three straight runs into the pile. Wtf... Run wide, something creative. I really thought that was going to be our undoing... Someone buy Wink and the defense a beer....
yay, we beat a bad bama team. Jalen Milroe sucks. He's a slightly better Alex Orji. They said during the broadcast that Milroe was going to make an announcement after the bowl game. If its for the NFL draft, that's laughable. Dude can't read a defense. In 2 games against Michigan I've seen he can't process and is confused easily.
Man I hope Chip Lindsey is the real deal cause play calling sucked.....AGAIN. Nice time to pull out the old double pass in an EFFIN MONSOON!
I'm holding off on coronating Wink. Bama blows and Milroe is not a good QB.
Anyone else concerned with the hits Jordan Marshall took? I had some Sam McGuffie flash backs. Dude's got game but man, I'd like to see a little less of him being tattooed!
Have concerns about Sherrone's game management skills. He's suspect as hell!
Pump the brakes Scotty! USC, MSU, and Bama suck and Michigan owns real estate in Ryan Day's head. I gotta see who's going to be the QB next year and if Chip Lindsey is the real deal. I'm still not sold on Wink Martindale, sorry!
Oh boy, ScottyDoggs hit the sauce a little early today. Not sure you can call a game manager "a machine".
yeah the double pass in the monsoon was awesome!
WTF is a guy in the portal playing over a roster guy????? This is why I have my doubts about Sherrone Moore. A real coach would tell Orji FO, you want to be the break glass in case of emergency QB, cool, otherwise pound sand you're no longer on the team!
In defense, not sure they could install a new offense between the OSU game and the bowl game. But yeah, Chip better be the real deal!
After beating Alabama with one of the worst offensive's in the nation, if not the worst, what does it say about our defense going into 2025?
Improving our offense this offseason has already taken major leaps, fill additional holes, solidify our offensive line play, a balance attack and next year should be very exciting!
Blue I'm a glass half full guy. I gotta see who the QB is going to be. I can't do another year like 2024 for QB play and play calling. Is Chip Lindsey an upgrade? On paper, sure, but the game isn't played on paper! Wink's D was solid against OSU and Bama, but Ryan Day and Chip Kelly's play calling was dumb. They decided they were running into the teeth of the Michigan D (Grant/Graham). It's the whole thing with Day "don't say we're soft". And I never saw the whole Milroe hype. In 2 games against us he looks confused and indecisive. The other thing, he got banged up earlier in the year and hasn't been the same runner. Biggest part of his game is running the ball. Guess that makes him a rich man's Alex Orji......lol
Chowman give credit where credit's due, being primarily M D-line. OSU was looking throughout that game at a M 4 man defensive front, with 7 back, convinced they could run on us, not only did M stuff the run, Howard was constantly pressured and hit to where he lost his mojo, Same with Alabama, Milroe, pressured, hit & sacked 5 times, to where he was becoming unglued, running game 62 net yards.
As crazy as it seems, I believe next years defense to be as good if not better than this year's, with an offense depended on a much improved offensive line to be fun to watch again.
Not throwing shade on the D, but OSU, Day/Kelly played into Michigan's hands. Day is bent on showing his team is tough. If they play called against us like they did against Oregon, I think we lose. We weren't in a position to play on the edges in space. What were built to do, is to play power football and shut down the run up the middle and thanks Ryan Day for trying show off your ballz! Howard's just an average QB. You can't consistently put him obvious passing situations, and if you pressure him, he's going to look bad!
UM is definitely on the right track. We have never got so many 5 star kids in one class. I've always scratched my head over this. This is MICHIGAN. Why are 5 star kids going to schools like Kentucky or SMU instead of here? I think this is a program adjustment by Warde and the administration. Keep in mind, we have a GM now, and a 'front office' lining up recruits to come here. $$$ Sherrone has built a strong culture here, and hopefully he overcomes his H.C. weaknesses as time goes on.
Play calling looked like an 8th grade middle school football team. After Orji threw the interception, did you know UM never called another pass play the rest of the game? Not having Jadyn Davis come in for 4-5 well rehearsed plays is mind blowing.
I've heard rumors that J Davis cannot get paid his NIL unless he stays here for 'X amount' of time. Don't know what that time frame is, but I expect when it is fulfilled, he is gone.
The corpse of Kirk Campbell couldn't have done worse play calling then that.
Play calling was horrible, but we really didn't have an offensive coordinator. Campbell was fired, and Steve Casulla the TE coach was calling plays. It looked like it.
But you still have to play the guy. Put him in for a handful of plays designed just for him, it's not that hard. If he violated team policy or something, then cut his ass.
This Michigan team adjusted to Wink, and vice versa. Like i said before, omitting the outliers of Oregen and Texas, Wink's defense allowed 17 pts a game this year. And that was with a Michigan offense that gave the ball right back to the other team's offense. The Defense should be strong next year.
